I'm pretty sure humanity stopped making music in the mid 2000s.

Right so guys......

I actually liked Purple Rain. I've never been a huge Prince fan, and not as in I haven't liked him, just that I never really got round to giving his music a proper try. Obviously I've heard When Doves Cry and Purple Rain before but that was about it. Some thoughts below:

The first song "Go Crazy" was absolutely amazing and I instantly thought what have I been missing, proper had me pumped for the rest of the album. After that some of the tracks were a bit weak in all honesty "Take me with U" and "Computer Blue" had my attention waning a little bit but I stuck through. Purple Rain and When Doves Cry obviously are great tracks, and I'm pretty sure I heard the guy that lives above me laugh when I was singing them.

Overall pretty good, would try more Prince in the future but not really my type of music. Solid 6.5/10 (Are we allowing .5s?)

Okay so... I thought it had some really strong tracks. I love When Doves Cry and Purple Rain is a classic. I enjoyed the first song too, but I thought the rest was a bit.... weak?

I'd give 6/10 overall :getmecoat:

I Thought most of them were pretty great. Ironically, I find purple rain the least interesting. He uses so many instruments, I love the random violins etc. that flit in and out. I would give it an 8/10

Some album suggestions:
Ever After - Marianas Trench
Midnight - Set it Off
Joyride - Roxette

Let's Go Crazy - Wasn't really feeling it until that guitar solo, but what a note to end on. :coma:

Take Me with U - Lyrics-wise, sounds more like the kind of music I associate with the 60s - early 70s. Not a bad thing.

The Beautiful Ones - Best one so far. :coma: :coma: Vocals and music are awesome.

Computer Blue - Again, got better towards the end, after that transition in the middle.

Darling Nikki - An hour or so after suggesting Grace Slick's 'Dreams' for this thread, I had second thoughts due to there being a naughty word in the first song. Apparently I needn't have worried. Far too pornographic for my tastes.

*side two*

When Doves Cry - I always liked this song as a child, but somehow reached the age of 31 with no idea what it was called, or who sang it. :ms: Best so far, and it goes on the pile of stuff to play while working on my next anime preview thread. :coma:

I Would Die 4 U - This one's amazing as well. :coma:

Baby I'm a Star - The first one that's made me want to get up and dance. I resisted though, dyspraxia and dancing aren't a good combination. Deserved the applause at the end. :coma:

Purple Rain - My first time listening to more than the chorus, I believe. A nice change of pace from Baby I'm a Star, lovely song to end on. :coma::coma:

Overall: Side 1 had its moments, but it definitely got better as it went along. I'm with gingerbread10000, 8/10 :coma::coma::coma::coma::coma::coma::coma::coma:

I recommend Led Zeppelin II (it's quite different to IV, which has already been suggested), Appetite for Destruction (Guns N' Roses) and Back In Black (AC/DC).

Ooooooh that spikes my interest, how would everyone feel about lining this up next and then dropping into the current backlog, thinking Kayne, then hitting what AngryJellyfish suggested on Thursday!
