Malibu... 16 songs! Certainly has quantity, but will it have QUALITY? Time to find out:

The Bird - Not something I'd listen to if left to my own devices, but pleasant enough. Kinda relaxing. :coma:

Heart Don't Stand a Chance - Not as good as The Bird. :dontknow:

The Waters - ...and suddenly, all the swearwords! :zomg: Definitely not my song.

The Season / Carry Me - Fantastic intro. Alright, despite the sudden explicit lyrics. :coma: The transitions between songs are really interesting.

Put Me Thru - Not bad, not amazing.

Am I Wrong - So far I've picked up jazz, soul and blues influences, and this one's very disco! Good stuff. :coma: :coma:

Without You - Not my kind of music, but the lyrics feel deeper and more relatable than those of Kanye West.

Parking Lot - Didn't do much for me. This album is certainly varied though, more than any other I've listened to for this thread so far.

Lite Weight - This one was very odd!

Room in Here - Too explicit for my tastes.

Water Fall (Interluuube) - Again, fairly pleasant background music, but doesn't do much for me.

Your Prime - Nah, seems a bit misogynistic, though I may be misunderstanding the lyrics or their intent.

Come Down - Okay, this was catchy. :coma:

Silicon Valley - This was just pornography in lyric form. Did giggle at 'tig-ol-bitties', though. :mmm:

Celebrate - 'But you're doing well, I mean you're not dead' - a good mindset for these dark times. Almost enjoyed this, but something felt lacking.:dontknow:

The Dreamer - Weak ending, felt like one of the less interesting songs on the album.

Overall, 5/10 feels fair. Some of the songs were very much my kind of thing, most definitely weren't, but I can appreciate the creativity and blend of different styles and genres.

No it wasn't!

I really didn't like the album yesterday, It was fine to listen to but I found it really dull with nothing interesting going on. 4/10 and I think I'm being generous.

The Original Soundtrack:

Une Nuit a Paris - Definitely the weirdest single song so far. :lolwut: Certainly an experience, but not one I'll be in a hurry to revisit.

I'm Not in Love - Oh, I've heard this one before! I like it. :coma::coma:

Blackmail - What a shift in tone! This one's great fun. That guitar censorship. :coma::coma:

The Second Sitting For The Last Supper - Apparently even 1970s rock music isn't free from the occasional n-word. :zomg:

Brand New Day - This one's also too experimental for my tastes.

Flying Junk - Pretty meh. Liked the ending, though.

Life Is a Minestrone - This is brilliant. I'm definitely a fan of their more comedic songs. :coma:

The Film of My Love - And again, we end with a song that does nothing for me.

Overall, though it couldn't sound any more different than Anderson .Paak's Malibu, I'm giving it the same score for the same reasons. Very creative, very experimental, every song sounds completely different from the one before it... the result is that some are hits, and some are misses. 5/10

Welp, so here this goes. Oxford Mum please look away now!

What....was...that? Every song was a completely different genre and every single track had something off about it. Something that made it a little jarring or confusing or off?

One exception to the above is the opening track Une Nuit A Paris (Part 1) which was one of the weirdest tracks I've ever heard. I found the whole 8 minutes very difficult to get through, and had me feeling really uncomfortable from start to finish.

After that track it gets much better but I just can't get over it. Unfortunately this just is not my jam what so ever, but interesting to see what other people are saying if it was more their bag.

2/10

It was obviously Freddie Mercury’s bag, as une unit a Paris inspired him to write bohemian rhapsody. It is weird and off the wall but that is why I like it

Okay, so.... I don't know whether it was just the headspace I was in yesterday or what, but I found The Original Soundtrack to be.. a challenge. It was disorientating and quite upsetting? I give it 1/10 - Seems like an acclaimed album though so I think I'm probably just not cultured enough to appreciate it

Late start today, as work was busy: The Doors!

Break On Through (To the Other Side) - One of the many songs I've known since childhood, but didn't know who sang them. :ms: A good start. :coma:

Soul Kitchen - Very familiar intro. Wouldn't surprise me if my parents have this album.

The Crystal Ship - This was okay, nothing special.

Twentieth Century Fox - Like the music, but not so sold on the lyrics.

Alabama Song (Whisky Bar) - Nostalgia! I heard this a lot when I was young. Not sure their choice of words would go down well these days. :noway: But I like it. :coma:

Light My Fire - Not the version I know (that'd be José Feliciano's cover), but this is apparently the original! Best so far, though the instrumental in the middle dragged a bit. :coma:

Back Door Man - Also familiar with this, though it doesn't do much for me.

I Looked at You - Pure 60s goodness. :coma:

End of the Night - This is the new 'best so far' song. :coma::coma:

Take It as It Comes - Very much my kind of song. :coma:

The End - Long one! Saved all the strong language for one final outburst. :zomg: Too abstract for me.

Overall: 7/10, a real nostalgia trip.

Can't bring meself to relisten to the Doors album. One of the dullest 'big' bands to have come out of the 60s for me.

Don't care too much for Queen and whathaveyou, but I like that 10cc album for pretty much the same reason. In fact, I like 10cc for that reason generally, the've always been a bit art-rock and weird.

I remember listening to it at age 13 and it blew my mind! Also 10CC were the first concert I ever went to. And I have a thing for Eric Stewart.

Excuse me but the instrumental part is the best part. Literally one of the best guitar sections ever

I was really looking forward to the Doors as I like invidiual songs and I felt I should have listened to a full album from them by now. However this was actually pretty dull. There are some individual tracks I really dig, Light My Fire, Break on through and Back Door Man highlights. This didn't really capture my imagination the way I thought it would. So I'm giving it a nice round 6/10.

Feeling great.............Album 8

Today we are going for one of the albums that has spent the longest in the backlog so far, and potentially the biggest modern day rock band ( if anyone even jokes about Coldplay I swear! ) its .......................

The Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I am, That's What I'm Not.

Whatever People Say I am, That's What I'm Not - A title that speaks to me.

The View from the Afternoon - Vaguely pleasant noise. Can't really make out the lyrics over the music.

I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor - Think I may have heard this before, way back. It's okay. :coma:

Fake Tales of San Francisco - *is a bored face at the back, wishing they wasn't there*

Dancing Shoes - Better. Much better. :coma:

You Probably Couldn't See for the Lights but You Were Staring Straight at Me - Strong intro, and catchy. :coma:

Still Take You Home - Good fun. :coma:

Riot Van - This one also had fun lyrics, but the music was a bit meh.

Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured - I do like the funny ones. :coma:

Mardy Bum - Didn't do much for me.

Perhaps Vampires Is a Bit Strong But... - Best song title ever. Actual song was a bit meh, though. :moon:

When the Sun Goes Down - MEH.

From the Ritz to the Rubble - Just isn't my kind of rock, TBH.

A Certain Romance - Very good intro. Okay, have one more point from me. :coma:

6/10. The kind of thing that'd I'd happily have playing in the background, but not something I'd actively listen to.

This was cute but bland, nothing I’d actively go and listen to. 5/10
