I'm an international student and I'm considering opting for private halls as I need to have an en-suite and a kitchen because of a health condition. However I'm worried that I'll be the only first year, what do you think? I also thought about renting out an apartment but that seems more complicated to manage.
Birmingham uni is my first choice and edinburgh is my safe

Tbh yes its likely there will be few first years and it will be full of postgrads or internationals who may not wish to socialise. All depends on the hall.

You should contact uni accommodation , tell them of your condition with proof and see if they can make any arrangements.

You can still make friends if you arent with freshers, just more challenging.
