For maths, patrick miles is one of the tutors, he's a genius (he can do whole integrations in his head)- actually am pretty sure there's a facebook group devoted to him somewhere.

And seriously, don't worry about the friends part. There are so many different types of people, plus they force you to get to know classmates in tutor groups, RME (sort of RE but not) and activities which you can choose. I'm sure you'll find your friendship group by christmas.

jelly1000- I know this isn't helping, but really cannot understand why you didn't get in- English lang/lit is surprisingly unpopular compared to lit and I know people who got in to do psychcology (cannot spell for the life of me) who scraped C's at GCSE. Buut, it depends who views applications cos the deputy head was strict on my friends, but I had the Principal for my interview & he was offering me further maths A level (???)

Best of luck anyway- if it helps, one of the lang/lit teachers is a real nutcase!

I was actually applying for straight Language, but seeing as most people get it muddled with GCSE English Lang it can't be too popular.
And the person I had for interview was awful. He didn't seem to be aware that indepednant schools don't have to do SATS, which I had to explain when he asked me what I got in KS3 Sats & I said I didn't do them. There was an awkward silence after that. And another awkward silence when I was forced to explain my dad is athiest (could this have counted against me?). And a lot of my predicted grades were things like A/B or A/A*. (I've rounded them up or down accordinly according to what I expect I'll get, e.g. German predicted A/B, I've put a B because thats what I'm expecting)
It might have helped that despite getting an A in my mock and all my coursework being an A/A*, I was given a predicted grade of A/B for English Lang GCSE. So the guy pointed to and was like, "well whats it going to be then, an A or a B" to which I wasn't very sure what to say, so I said "well an A then because thats what I got in my mock." And then he was like "are you sure Literature and not Language" pointing to the fact that my school predicted me A/A* for Lit. Well I've always been better at, and preffered Language GCSE (which I am very aware is different to A-Level). But no-one would believe me when I said my interview hadn't gone well.

Jelly1000, i think the fact that your dad is an athiest possibly played a huge part in you not being accepted..there's a girl in my school who is the smartest girl in our year group and she was predicted near straight A*'s, at her interview the man asked her, 'do you believe in God?' and she said 'Well no, not really', and she didnt get accepted and noone could find any other reason why she wasn't be accepted.
I think they want you to have grown up with extremely religious parents or something :s-smilie:

And thanks *dicie* for all your answers

I would be really annoyed if that was the case, because both me & my Mum are Jewish, and although I'm not at Synagogue every Saturday, I do do a lot of community work there. I can understand the idea of the girl who didn't believe in God getting rejected, because she wouldn't benefit fully from being in a religious environment.

I applied here, with 6/7 A*s as predicted grades, but since I did not reside in the borough of that school and I wasn't Catholic I was rejected.

One of my friends, who is in care, has catholic parents and he worse grades than me but he got accepted
