You can always go to the doctors for pills, a fact often not taken notice of due to the fact people think the pills will make you depressed. But they start you on antibiotic pills and only use Roaccutane as a last resort.
I'd agree with the post above

You should see a doctor, who will obviously provide anti-biotic for your acne, and if you acne persists they he will refer you to a dermatologist, who will decide whether you should go on Roaccutane or not.

The acne products you see on the market are usually for mild acne. None of them worked for me, so I went on Roaccutane and now I have no spots. But it might be diff for you, there is no harm in trying new things.

i went to the doctor and he gave me antibiotics and aquagel 2.5 which worked well, as long as i washed my face before with nothing but water, dried it + waited a while, applied the gel in a thin layer to start with and over a few months started to apply it thicker, wait a while for that to dry, then moisturise.

I found quinoderm works, but the above posters are right, you're better off going to a professional
I use benzoyl peroxide cream. Namely oxy on the spot but there are others. I have fairly severe acne and this stuff really does work. However you need to be careful with it because if you get it on your clothes it will bleach them and it can be quite drying. I recommend only using it at night and use a good moisturiser

Yeh my boyfriend uses Benzoyl Peroxide as well, the 10% stuff, hes been spot free for 2 years now, and it used to be so severe! He puts it on at night, and once you're skin gets used to it, it dosen't dry it out so much.
As for the OP, see a doc first, if not use benzoyl, its affordable and works!
thanks a lot. Is it possible to get the anti-biotics or Roaccutane in anything other than tablet form which you have to swallow? Also how long did it take for the stuff to work, to fully get rid of the acne? And do you still have to keep using it after your acne has gone as wel?

If you find the cream and antibiotics don't work well then here's another possible alternative.

It's a 'light box' called BeautySkin by a guy called Dr. Kern. It uses red and blue lights. The blue light enters the bacteriums and is antibacterial, preventing other spots from coming up. The red light relaxes the skin. The Lights are outside the UV range i.e. a safe alternative to the sun without UV radiation.

It says you should use it 15 minutes each day, consistently to see improvements. My acne is only small an dnot much of a problem but I still want rid of it, so I'm using this throughout the summer holidays. I'll post if i see some improvements in the next couple of weeks!

Here's a encouraging customer review for the lightbox:

One of the problems with this through is the price. New, I think it's roughly £175 but in my opinion if it works then it's worth the money :yep:

After being prescibed all medicines available and sent to the Dermatologist I listened and researched the side effects of Roaccutane and decided it wasn't for me. I let nature take it's course and have just pretty much grown out of my acne (i'm 22). I have seen the effects of Roaccutane (the good and the bad) and don't regret my decision not to go on it.

If it affects you mentally, consider it... if, like me you aren't really bothered about your acne i'd recommend to let nature take it's course.

It's important to note that yes it does bleach and if you use it at night like I did you may need to put a towell over your pillow to prevent it being bleached!

Also, when you apply it and wash it off your hands, DONT dry your hands on a towell you don't want bleached.. it will bleach badly very quickly.

I was back and forth the doctors for 3 years before being reffered to a dermatologist, I was eventually put on roaccutane (now known as isostretinoin). But this really is the last resort.
From the GP, what I found helped the most (although didn't clear it for myself) was the combination of erythromycin tablets and isostretin gel.
If you want any more advice PM me and I'll give you my website where I wrote about my experience.
My acne's mild/moderate but very persistent. My doctor's tried benzoyl peroxide gel, erythromycin and dianette (which isn't an antibiotic but a contraceptive pill), and none of them have worked. My acne's not bad enough for me to consider roaccutane (dianette was bad enough), so at the moment there's very little a GP can do for me.

I'm experimenting with my diet (eating much more healthily), and my acupuncturist's suggested treatment involving moxa. My acne's not too bad at the moment, but I haven't been doing this long enough to say whether it's helped long-term. PM me in a little while if you're curious. :p:
i used to have acne a good contraceptive pill for it is called yasmine. there are alot of gels and creams they can give u to try out. Antibiotic drugs can be used for a long period of time, these really helped me the most. try to drink atleast 2litres of fluid a day. try to avoid roaccutane as it thins the skin so much you wont be able to use alot of products

I have quite bad acne which I have had for 2 years now. At the moment I am using a dermalogica acne treatment pack, which is quite good, but just takes ages to put on as there are around 4 creams to put on. I wanted to know what anyone with acne would recommend, or what worked for them. Something which was quick to put on and effective as well.

Give MSM Powder a go.

If you want a cheap, high street alternative to avoid going to the doctors in case you are embarrased or anything then this is a miracle cure:

- The Body Shop morning facial wash. See through bottle, green liquid.
- The Body Shop tea tree night blemish lotion.

They are the only things I have found which works really well so far!

Oh and drink lots of water and get your 5 a day!

On no accounts, no accounts whatsoever ask for antibiotics at the doctor OP. All they do is work a little for the first few months, and then immune spots come raging right back. Then all they say is try roaccutane.

I had the worst acne possible (cystic, pustular, everywhere) for years and years on end. Nothing ever worked. Doctors had given up.

QUINODERM. QUINODERM is the answer. It contains BP (at either 5% or 10%, you choose, start off with 5%) and an antibacterial agent. It's a odourless cream you just rub into your skin once a day, and within 5 days, I promise you, ALL your spots will be gone. You'll still have mild redness from old spots, but because of the peeling qualities, within the next few weeks, the redness will ALL go away.

Still to this day, 2 years later, my skin is crystal clear.

Go to your Boots immediately and get a big tube for £3.80.

You will not be disappointed.

Even the reviews on the internet (check out acne.org) give it a 90% approval rating, the highest on the site.
