As someone who's exams are due to take place at the height of this crisis, I like that students are getting a choice as this is an unprecedented situation.

This university in the USA seems to be yeah. The story in the UK is a bit different though, there won't be student involvement in this manner according to the most recent announcements.

This is in the US, though? US is behind the UK in terms of lifecycle, so you might squeeze some exams in. UK unis are going ahead at this stage.

It's hard to tell where the US is due to their lack of testing early on but yeah UK unis are still going ahead.

I can't blame the UK unis for offering online assessments at this stage as who knows where this outbreak may go, maybe (hopefully) it will peak much earlier and go but if it peaks around exam time for certain students they may reassess
