Pictures are just pictures seriously and they can have a great atmosphere either way and in my opinion go and visit them, seriosuly you might walk around trevs and love it

But surely you agree that what a college looks like is one of the most important factors in making a choice? I chose Durham in part because of its architecture, and I think that if I had been assigned to any other Hill college I would have turned down the offer.

Architecture is not the highest priority on most people's list!!! It's about a feeling, whether they have the right facilities, location and atmosphere, there's a college for everyone, you just need to have a look around!
I love old buildings, but Trev's is a particular favourite of mine, if I didn't go to my college, Trev's is where I would choose to be and I know many other people who would say the same thing.
Course content, resources, possibility of further study, sporting and social events are much more important for me. Well, makes a change from going to uni for job prospects I guess. Wish those type just get an NVQ or something.
Choosing a college should have been far more than the effort i put in but Castle is yes a castle before one visits it and great but i know when i walked in it became far more than just bricks and mortor and im sure that everyone else is the same even the people pooled. We all form allegiances to our own colleges and you may well walk into Hatfield and ahte it, personally I didnt like the Hatfield atmosphere when i went on the post application open days so in the end I am happy I chose Castle but mroe so for the traditions, the ethos and the general feeling I got when I arrived there.

as i said go and visit and get the 'feel' for each of them and go in with an open mind

Josephine Butler, because having your own bathroom is important.

Having food cooked is better, though as a returner to Aidans I get both

I'm a fussy eater  plus I like the idea of waking up at 2pm and thinking 'oh no, I haven't missed breakfast and lunch'. ALLLLLLSOOO, Butlers have the advantage of the walk - if you eat unhealthily you have to walk for ages to get anywhere, thus burning off what you just ate. Terrific quality, non?

Iono, I generally think of 'being central to everything' meaning 'constantly busy and loud' which may be wrong.

And you, my friend, are destined for microwave meals

is castle food really that awful?! ive heard it could be better lol and i think you have a point that it can be loud etc but stumblign back to JB from loveshack or some other central occasion is an idea littered with issues on my part

I'm not there - I've just done my research (translation - spent too much time on facebook reading the Jo Butler groups), but if I get the grades I'll be studying sociology. Not quite as prestigious as law, but then getting a place at Durham with a BBB/ABC offer isn't bad!
What I would give for an offer like that, I am so worried about not meeting my offer and have come to resigning myself to the fact that I probably wont get in. Our two colleges truly are at the opposite end of the spectrum and thus will be either loved or hated i suppose.

Well I can only wish you the best of luck, add me on facebook if you want, just search Tony Fisher and we have probably got some mutual friends.

That is the Castle Menu. The food seems edible, although I have no idea what most of it is. Fondant potato?

Im doing law too by the way. Luckily my offer is unconditional .

That's because, for the most part, grades are based on demand rather than ability. Suits me fine being interested in a subject that isn't extortionately oversubscribed by students who think they are going to be rich when they're older.

Im not simply doing law with the idea of being rich in mind and frankly that is verging somewhat on insulting if you dont mind me saying so. The law is a fundamental cornerstone of our democracy and needs to be preserved, reaseached and kept in check by academics constantly. Yes the financial aspect of the career is appealing but I can damn well assure you sir that it is not the only one

I always miss breakfast, but then I am the sort who can survive quite happily on two meals a day plus a snack late at night (we can cook as well if we want).

As for Butler's walk, we have the legendary hill. Beat that for a workout...

Castle food is pretty bad I hear, in contrast to Aidans, which has won the uni food award for 2 years running...

Chads is really nice! Bailey, the smallest college (so community if that's what your cousin likes), and the buildings are lovely, the have a covered over courtyard which some of the rooms are round which is a really nice place to hang out and I've seen people studying there. Also, lovely back lawn for drinks in the summer.
Some people would be put off by how small it is though so let them know about that!

So you're into public and criminal law then? You're better off fighting for democracy in the political arena, especially as judges have so few powers. If I really wanted to assault the legal people I'd pick up every unduly lenient sentence I could find, like the case of Joey Barton. Then there are other miscarriages of justice whether it's Derek Bentley, Stefan Kizsko or Petra Blanksby - all three of whom fell victim to the criminal justice system one way or another. For the record, we live in an elected dictatorship.

Unfortunately, too many people go to university for job prospects I feel, which is getting rid of academia in a way. There's an article on it from The Guardian I'd happily dig out for you.

Edit: Here is a thread on it, and the Guardian article is here.

The law needs to be checked but it also needs to be enforced and reduce crimes too. How many people do you think die on the roads, whether their fault or not, every day in the country? Take a guess. And let me know when a drink driver kills gets a manslaughter charge. I'll have a better view of the law when it does.
