Hey
I’m 30, just about to finish 1st year of uni. Currently in isolation at home due to the virus. Husband has been told to work from home once our isolation period is over but our finances are already struggling as his boss hasn’t paid him the usual wage because its been so quiet since the virus got worse. I am trying to work out how to pay the bills and buy food. The only thing I can think of (apart from crazy interest payday loans etc) is seeing if student finance can pay April’s maintenance loan a few weeks early? I’m sure they don’t normally do this but i didn’t know if that might change due to this being such an unusual situation.
I literally have about 50p in my bank account and we need food shopping desperately I thought posting on here might be easier than ringing up as i imagine everybody will be ringing up at the moment!

I can’t believe all this is happening, i have so much to do with uni work and also trying to help the kids with school work. I am really struggling at the moment, I am hoping someone can advise me?!

Thanks in advance

From my experience its pretty rare they will ever do that, Student finance set the payment dates in line (roughly) with term dates. But it still might be worth asking, if they can't they may be able to point you in another direction of help.

Im sorry youre going through this, have you looked for local charities? lots are being set up to help people struggling with finances, particularly with providing food packages, there are pages on facebook.

Hi Jill,

According to the Gov website April payments are going ahead as planned. I hope this alleviates your worry slightly.

If you have any other questions I'm happy to help if I can.

Your university will have hardship funds. Speak to a student advisor from your uni, they will know where you can get help.
