Not an expert but my thoughts:
- shows some degree of tolerance (J.S Mill advocated for tolerance)
- ^ falls in nicely w freedom of expression (a right - liberals love rights! use Betty Friedan (women’s rights) and maybe John Locke w/ natural rights).
- allows some degree of freedom/liberty - liberals believe that we r rational enough to make our decision (links to human nature: rational & progressive)
- allows some degree of individualism - liberals believe state’s purpose is to facilitate individualism whilst having other functions, depending on what type of liberal you look @.

By the 60s the war children had grown up and they wanted their freedom of expression.
Not just sexual stuff, they had things to say about politics too . . .
