I want to get a private plate for my car but I am not the registered keeper/owner of my car. Does that mean they will own the plate and not me?

You can buy the private numberplate, make the payment and then receive the V750 certificate of entitlement in your name.
Then you can either apply to the DVLA to assign the numberplate to a vehicle or just hold it.

When the vehicle is registered to either the dealership or a used vehicle registered to another person, they have to apply to assign.

Do I have to be the registered keeper of the car to buy a plate for it?
