What do Peter and Martha Cratchit represent in "A Christmas Carol"?

The whole Cratchit family represent the poor victorians that are still happy, a contrast to how scrooge is now. They could also be used by Dickens as a way to remind Scrooge of his and Little Fan (his sisters relationship)
