Email From Manchester University

Hi,

I got this email from Manchester University (my firm) today. Has anyone else had the same email? What does it mean? Does that mean they got my grades and I have met their condition?

Any advice appreciated!!!

They are just asking you to log in and check some information. It says nothing about your acceptance, and they don't have your A level results yet (unless you are Scottish) so don't try to read too much into it.

I had to enrol at my university a couple of weeks before I received my grades.

Read this sentence^^^^^^^

Why would they be preparing registration documents for everyone who has conditional offer (waste of time, money etc). That’s all I’m saying?

Has anyone who has an offer from School of Social Sciences had the same email?

Universities don't get your results until tomorrow.

All they want is for you to make sure that they have your correct contact details. They are not necessarily actually sending out documents yet. There is a process to go through, and they may find it more efficient to get everyone to check details now, rather than wait until after results and check only the successful ones, particularly if they expect that most will get in.

Hey I got this email. I only checked because of this thread.

It's only a little space on their website to be fair.

Oooooooooooooooooh,
I hate Manchester University!!! It just seems sooooooo stupid to send such email if there’s no point to it. You’d think if you change your address, the first thing you’d do is to inform UCAS as well as you firm and insurance. I don’t know, the email is ambiguous to me. Let’s see what everyone else thinks……………

Just how many times do you have to be told? They don't have your results yet!

Dear (My name),

You may have already received an email from us, but if not we would like to welcome you to Imperial College London and to the International Office which is here to help and support you throughout your studies. If you have already received an email from us, please read on as we have further information to share with you regarding your arrival at Imperial. Equally if you feel that you are not an International student please ignore this email. This does not have any affect on your fee status, this email is only for reference.

This email provides you with useful information on the following stages pre-arrival. Whereas previously you may have received this information by post from a university, in an effort to help the environment, pre arrival information is now sent electronically. At the bottom of this email you will also find a checklist for your registration process.

If you have already received your examination results, please send the original document confirming this (or a certified copy) to the relevant College Registry team, whose contact details can be found at the end of this email. Equally if you have any questions regarding outstanding conditions of your offer, please contact your Registry team directly.

Visa regulations have changed significantly over the past year and will continue to do so, so please check the following Imperial College webpage: http://www.imperial.ac.uk/international/startingatimperial/immigration and the UK Border Agency webpage for further details: http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf5students . If you need an unconditional offer letter to use as a supporting document for your student visa application, the Registry will be able to issue this as soon as you have met all of the conditions of your offer. Guidance notes and application forms for student visa applications can be downloaded directly from the UK Border Agency website or from our website: http://www.imperial.ac.uk/international/visas. If you have studied in the UK before and still have a valid student visa from your previous course, you may be able to use that visa to re-enter the UK and then extend it in the UK when necessary. However, we advise you to save time and money by applying for a new visa for your new course in your home country.

The following are some useful links to help plan your arrival:

One of the main things students ask us about is bank accounts and how to set these up. We have guidance on our website to help you with this and to tell you about the options pre and post arrival (that we currently know about - this is often being updated), please look at our guidance for further information: www.imperial.ac.uk/international/startingatimperial/support/bankaccounts

As well as our International Student Welcome Event on Sunday 5th October, we will also be holding workshops throughout October to help you settle in. You will be able to sign up for these workshops during the first week of term, once you have your timetable, simply by emailing or calling the International office (contacts below)

http://www.imperial.ac.uk/international/startingatimperial/arrival/reception

If friends or family are coming to England to help you settle in or during your stay, you may also want to arrange accommodation for them. Our Conference Link department has some excellent local deals and they can be booked at the following link: http://www.imperial.ac.uk/conferences/index.asp?page_id=27

On arrival if you have any questions, you are welcome to come to the student hub on Level 3 of the Sherfield Building, where they can help you with: Accommodation, Finance and tuition fees, Exams, Student funding and bursaries, Student records, Admissions and UROP (please see the bottom of the email for more information).

In the meantime, we would like to wish you lots of success in your results. We look forward to meeting you in October.

Best wishes

Student Registration Process

1 Check e mail account for instructions on how to register (notification of your Student e-Service will be sent to every e mail address we have listed for you)

2 Visit the Student e-Service link at www.imperial.ac.uk/studenteservice and complete all of your personal details to register

3 Upload photograph (this option is available up until your course start date)

4 Print the ‘Registration Confirmation’ page: this will appear on the screen once you have registered. You can find printers located at the following sites.... *

To obtain a swipe card, you will then have a process to follow depending on whether you are in Student Halls or staying in your own accommodation:

Student Halls:

If you have uploaded a photo, you will be issued with a swipe card by your Warden. You must attend the safety talk on your Hall's safety and other relevant procedures.
During week 1 you must visit your department for the timetabled safety induction for the premises and other relevant issues.
If you have not uploaded a photo at this stage you will only be issued with a guest card by your Warden (with limited validity). To obtain your fully validated swipe card, you will need to:
On arrival, take your Registration Confirmation Page to Security (located on Level1 of the Sherfield Building next to the HSBC cash machine) in order to have your picture taken.
Your swipe card will be forwarded to your department
You will be issued with your fully validated swipe card once you have attended your department's safety induction, timetabled for week 1.
If you arrive after week 1, to obtain a swipe card, you will need to :
Request and attend a safety induction in your department
Your department will then issue you with a completed Day 1 Safety Checklist.
Take the completed Day 1 Safety Checklist and your Registration Confirmation Page to Security where you will be issued with your swipe card.

Private Accommodation:

If you have uploaded a photo, during week 1 you must do the following to obtain your swipe card:
Take your Registration Confirmation Page with you when you attend your department's timetabled safety induction relating to the premises and other relevant issues.
Once you have had this you will be issued with your swipe card.
If you have not uploaded a photo at this stage you must on arrival:
Take your Registration Confirmation Page to Security in order to have your picture taken.
Your swipe card will be forwarded to your department
Attend your department's timetabled safety induction during week 1, after which you will be issued with your fully validated swipe card.
If you arrive after week 1, to obtain a swipe card, you will need to:
Request and attend a safety induction in your department
Your department will then issue you with a completed Day 1 Safety Checklist.

So unis send emails welcoming people before they actualy have the results. What jokers!!!!!
I got a similar email from my university yesterday.

They just want to make sure they have your details correct so that the post-results swarm of documents go to the right place.
I think that's what they are doing...(trying to confuse us and make us nervous)

Yeah. Definitely. That's a worthwhile thing to do for them.

he's right though

we dont have the A level results yet - they're just sending out bulk emails to get the information sorted before they have to start posting things out next wednesday/thursday onwards.

Right, OK, I just wanna clear up a few urban myths about A-Levels and Universities;
1. Universities will not get any results till Sunday. Even then, they will not begin to process them until Monday.
2. You will not be able to find out whether you got into the uni of your choice at midnight! This is the worse urban myth of them all. 7am at the earliest on UCAS Track. ALTHOUGH, clearing lists are availible at midnight, so if your worried about not getting into Uni...
I know #2 isn't applicable on this thread, but everyone seems to think this is the case with UCAS track.
