Switching from Engineering to Medicine

So this is going to be a controversial and I have by no means made this decision.
I’m a first year engineering student at a top university but I’m having a slight existential crisis over my career path.
My discipline basically means I will be going into military and Defense which with recent events i am questioning morally. Compounding this over the past year and a bit I’ve been involved in many incidents where I’ve given medical aid and support for my friends and family (first aid trained and rather experienced with accidents) and I’ve realised how much I enjoy helping people and I’ve had many people tell me I’m good at it and ask “why aren’t you doing medicine?” Which is exactly a question I’m beginning to ask.
So I’m just putting some questions out there, what’s it like to be a doctor in the UK?
How difficult would the conversion be?
Is the conversion even possible?

Any help is appreciated and sorry for the text spam, thanks.
