Is it phonetics by any chance?
As for memorising...perhaps you could associate it with things that are well relatable to you?

In Russia, I used to memorise it as i played the violin and sometimes the piano and drums

5.00 = A
4.00 - 4.99 = B
3.00 - 3.99 = C
And bellow is a dissapointment
