probably the same reason some guys are always classed as idiots, tend to be complete *****... it gets played down.

yeah bekky from BB described herself as 'bubbly' and look what she looked like!
though she was really bubbly, so maybe her weight was irrelvant?

Reply 3

It's just a nice way of saying it. No one wants to be described as fat, so people say they're curvy or bubbly to give a positive impression. What's your point?

Reply 4

Doesn't bubbly mean "happy" or "laughy"?

Reply 5

so curvy means fat then? omg off to the gym i go kmt
beyonce = curvy = not fat!

Reply 6

When I mean curvy i dont mean fat, i mean curvy, not fat pouring out of the bottom of a top which 'shows off' your midriff. (sorry, someone in my work today :>.<: )

to me, it looks worse. it's like they are trying to hide something and making it good instead of accepting their flaw and trying to improve it.

It's called an euphemism.

Totally agree. Its not like a disability where people will walk around it so to speak, if you are fat and you dont like people acknowledging you are fat then who's fault is that!

Well yeah, that tends to be more with 'bubbly' though. Most people who say they're curvy (that I've come across anyway) just have figures. Obviously there are exceptions.

You're being a wee bit harsh though. I know people should get up and exercise and stop eating, but some people (younger women in particular) have low confidence because of it. To some extent i agree that people should just say they're fat, because then they might do something about it, but it would just be nasty in a lot of cases to describe someone in such a horrible way.

the oversized people who refer to themseves as "curvy" give girls who are actually curvy a bad name
a belly doesn't count as a curve

the point i was making was, slimmer/normal girls dont generally refer to themselves as bubbly, its just the big ones. and i can't see a correlation. And i would have thought they would have realised that using the word "bubbly" is a dead-giveaway and would stop using it by now.

Actually I agree. I started off trying to be nice about it cos guys that have a go at fat girls tend to annoy me and I felt the need to stick up for them.

It is just a euphemism though. I haven't heard 'bubbly' in a while though, I thought larger people had caught on. What brought this into your mind?

In the case of fat 'bubbly' girls, their effervescence is probably some sort of compensation - usually people at both extremes of the spectrum (introversion or extroversion) are making up for some sort of psychological insecurity.

Well, yeah, bubbly = fat seems to be the general opinion. I feel a bit bad for anyone reading this that is a bit bigger though.
