I don't like music and movies

Hey guys,

Everyone around me seems to love and praise music but for me I just don't get what all the fuss is about. I find music really noisy and it never really meant anything to me. On a beautiful day, I would just like to be at peace and minimise any unnecessary distractions.

Moreover, I feel like music is fabricated idealism. It tries to purposefully invoke an emotion in you by manipulating you through sound. I prefer living in the real world tbh...

For movies, if it's not a documentary then I just feel like it's BS and wonder if actors realise how lame their lives are. Sometimes I also wonder how they can even act!! Like how is it that easy for them to escape themselves...

I also read A LOT of books but I've never been able to go through an entire book of fiction (so far). I mostly read philosophy, history, politics, etc...

I also LOVE going to art galleries. Something in that is just appealing. I know a lot about the art world and I appreciate every detail in it. I feel like fine art, besides writing, is the best way for someone to express themselves.

Does this make me a lame person? Like, if you meet someone who doesn't listen to music or watch movies would you say that they're not interesting? Would you find it odd?

1) I don't believe in mental disorders

2) How did you relate this to that?
Doesn't make you lame, different people like and dislike different things.

Your reasons seem quite sciolistic though.

Well, I'm surprised.
As I said before your reasons are sciolistic in nature. and you saying you don't believe in mental disorders made me think that theres a dunning Krueger effect here, which is understandable in younger people as people lack of knowledge don't really understand how much knowledge they lack, but people with more knowledge understand they know a sliver of the info out there. It just surprised me that you could make a claim of not believing in mental disorders when there is overwhelming research in the area and has been for decades. Also autism isn't even a mental disorder.

My original answer stands though, not liking these things don't make you lame?

I don't really like films but to me when people say they don't like music, it's like saying 'I don't like breathing'. madness. but eh, we're all different. As long as ye are happy

I know that what I know is but a very tiny tiny tiny bit of what is out there, dw. I have no illusions concerning the depth and breadth of my knowledge. I am very realistic when it comes to that and to most things.

Concerning mental disorders, I believe that spirituality can cure and expand the mind. This is my personal belief and I have tried on myself in the past, it worked. Mental disorders are constructs by psychologists to classify people who don't fit 'social norms' but who decides these norms anyway...

Going back to Autism, the developmental disorder (sorry), I would say that I fit some of the criteria. I am unable to socialise with most people outside the academic world, my interests seem to be purely academic (too focused on one thing), I used to have repetitive and obsessive behaviour when I was younger but I stopped it using spirituality, I still CANNOT do eye contact with anyone and I definitely lack empathy BUT I learned to speak really really early, I am fast in learning languages. Idk if I am classified as autistic according to the newest psychology book but I frankly don't care. I go to a very good university, I have top grades, I have a few friends that care about me and I'm happy with my life.

Whether you believe in them or not doesn't make them any less real, it just makes you wilfully ignorant.

I don't really care about your judgmental and snobby attitude. Not everyone who disagrees with you is ignorant.

Have a good night.

Thank you sir. Yeah, I'm doing fine without it!

I just struggle sometimes because literally everyone listens to and adores music while I struggle to actually like it. Feels like I'm the odd one out sometimes and I try to hide it because I know people's reactions are going to be that I'm not normal or something.

I can understand this to a point, because this is how I am with the vast, vast majority of films. My mates 9and my girlfriend) love them and always have good things to say, but most of the time they stir nothing in me and I have zero interest

It's a little out the ordinary, but don't beat yourself up over it!
