Hi! I'm doing a project on Milgram and I'm talking about the agentic state, but I can't actually find the original paper/article where Milgram himself theorises this. Could anyone point me in the right direction or give me the reference for when he discusses this? I know its definitely not in his original 1963 paper

Took me sometime to find it! But here: Milgram, S. (1974). Obedience to authority: An experimental view. New York: Harper & Row.

It's a book so you can't check the reference, but I found it quoted on here: 'Furthermore, what he called the “keystone” of his analysis (Milgram, 1974, p. 133), the “agentic state,” by:

Making the Undoable Doable: Milgram, the Holocaust, and Modern Government
Nestar Russell, Robert Gregory
