Marcos!
I was almost set on it until i heard from a current student that its not the place to go for top notch degrees

Any one here have anything to say about it?

My sister is at Bournemouth (studying International Marketing) and has found the course and uni pretty good. I wouldn't say it's where the most academically able people go, but I would say she's done pretty well out of it, as she's now in her fourth year and having spent a year in industry, has been offered a really good job for when she graduates, and has learnt a lot. What course are you planning on doing? I could prob get some more info for you.

I went to the open day and talked to the course leaders and they gave me an unconditional offer on both courses i was applying to, i think one other person who attended also got an unconditional offer, the courses were:

- Computer Aided Product Design
- Industrial Design

So at least the hard part is out of the way, they told me all i had to do now was apply via ucas and make my decision.

Ive visited twice already, first time was in march as i applied last year and went down there to the interview, but ultimately decided to take a gap year due to finances. They gave a tour of the downtown campus and a brief trip to see the main campus out of town (I think thats how it was).

And i went again last month which secured a position as mentioned above, but the tour was much shorter and i didnt get to see the main campus this time :frown:)

I think the facilities were ok when i visited, and the location is the best i could think of, im just slightly worried about the quality of the courses and degrees now, as i would like to make sure i dont waste 4 years at the wrong uni if you see what i mean

The Media department is meant to be really good.
The organisation on open days isn't so good.

Don't worry, it's held in pretty good esteem. And considering that you're not taking a particularly traditional academic course, and you're probably not thinking of being an investment banker or a lawyer, you'll be absolutely fine going there. Most employers in industry will be more interested in what you've done than what degree you've got.

Thanks for the reassuring words Any more opinions appreciated.

Oh, also, how are living costs down there?
I know that its great (and very competitive - some of my friends who are fantastic at art were rejected) for art courses, but I have no idea about your course.

Oh wait, just to make sure you know, im applying at bournemouth uni not the arts institute of bournemouth

I tried to find a suitable course at the arts institute but they didnt have it.

Badabing.

I'm at Bmth uni- top social life - respected for media and computing degrees - chicks are fit.

That is all I am prepared to say.

Heh, sounds good

What are the living costs like compared to the rest of the country? Ive been living in the midlands where its about average. Is it expensive there? I wont have any or much at all financial support from parents

Can anyone give insight into the living costs? Im going to be supporting myself completely so i would like to know in advance if its pricey there

I think my sister pays about 65 quid a week for rent, in a house shared with 6. Food is the same as it costs everywhere else I guess! I don't think Bournemouth is particularly expensive to live in, but it's not cheap either. Unless you go up north you're going find that at nearly every southern university.

Ok, good As long as it isnt expensive. Any more info appreciated

Bmouthis not such a good uni for the more "academic" subjects, but its has a good reputation for media. however i was told by a teacher last year that the only reson it doent have such a good rep because there is not much research done there.
the nightlife is good tho! (expensive but good!).
theres also quite a good alternative music scene if you know where to go and into that type of music. lots of good unsigned bands around.
if you want a cheaper place to live, dont look in the town centre, the best place to look is somewhere like Charminster. You could try Boscombe, but its full of skanky heroin addict and prostitute types, so has a reputation for being quite rough. but overall, bmouths great!

Yeah I don't find it pricey at all. The student Union bars & clubs are pretty good on costs for booze and food. The town is pricey on the weekend, but we just usually hit the union on a weekend and the town in the week as its cheaper.

I've never heard anyone complain its particularly expensive.

Thanks for the input, i made a similar thread on another forum and one member who has been to the uni has some very negative things to say:

Now im lost again, the last thing i want to do is waste my time. But i would like as many opinions as possible

Hmm, interesting comments. I had a mate a mate who did computer animation and all his course walked out of uni into really good jobs, no probs. One of my housemates is doing Programming and he had no problem at all finding a placement for next year, he said the course was good and the employers had no probs with the fact he was at Bmth Uni.

Do you happen to know any CAPD students?

Would be nice if i could somehow get in contact with a 3rd or 4th year student to see how they find the course as of late.
