Anyone Going To City College Norwich?

There's a Tesco metro in the city centre, and also one down one of the side streets near the college- I can't remember the name of the road but it goes off Ipswich road as you walk up from the city. I'll try to find the name of the street for you.

I don't know much about the pubs (I don't drink) but I hear the Murderer's on Timber Hill is very good (my sister goes there sometimes).

EDIT: Yeah, there's a Tesco Express near college. As you walk up towards college from St Stephen's street, you come to a side road on the left called Grove Road. If you go down to the end of that street, the Tesco Express is across the road and to the left. Can't miss it.

There's also a big sainsbury's near the bus station.

Hey Cooro.. nice to see you again!! How did you do in your A levels? Did you get in to UEA?

and also thanks for offering to help along with Norfolkadam.. its great that people are helping me... Id have been a real worrier if no one had have offered me to find my bearings around norwich..

perhaps you could tell me a little bit about norfolk itself.. what sorts of places are good to visit? are there any other great towns/cities that are as good as norwich near by?

thank you Cooro.. that would be a great help to me. I'm trying to find a quiet little pub where I can go for a drink and sometimes without mates too.. not too much of a drinker myself.. lol.. I can only drink like a pint or two and thats my lot.. its not that I cant handle it, its just I choose not to get really drunk.. lol..

Yup, got ABB. I'm off to the UEA in September :woo:

Ummmm..... well, there's Great Yarmouth if you like seasidey stuff. You can get the bus there from the bus station. Er... I hear Wymondham is good for shopping- it's only a short train trip away, and you can go to Ipswich on the train too. Also, you can get buses from the city into Peterborough, although it takes a couple of hours and you can get the train there too, I think.

There's loads of pubs everywhere. The Walnut Tree Shades seems quite sheltered, as it's down a side street of London Street. it's also opposite the Norwich Gaming Centre. They have fruit machines and whatnot, as well as several pool tables. Me and my friends go there to play pool sometimes when we're bored.

The Adam and Eve is lovely- it's near the law courts by the cathedral- and there's loads of pubs dotted throughout the city so you'll not be hard pressed to find somewhere to go. There's one close to the college but I'd imagine it'd get fairly busy.

:proud: I'm so looking forward to the UEA.

I hardly ever go to Gt. Yarmouth as I don't like the seaside much, but it's pretty easy to get to and I suppose if you like that sort of thing then it's convenient.

And no problem, I love Norwich. I'm always willing to sing it's praises to people.

woo ok ye that would be a great help to me.. I havnt got a clue about my way around norwich. Are there any Tesco supermarkerts/asda or any other supermarkets etc near the city centre?

Ive heard a bit about shopping in norwich, like it was voted the 5th best place to shop in the UK.. just wondered what other shops were good in norwich.. like clubs, bars, restaurants... Is there any quiet pubs? lol.. by that i mean a pub that isnt always crowded if you just wanted to go for a quiet drink?

Right in terms of supermarkets near the city centre you've got Sainsbury's near the bus station which is quite close to CCN. You've got Tesco Metro bang-smack in the centre opposite the City Hall. You've got a big Morrisons on the Riverside which is near the railway station. A bit more upmarket you have Rainbow Superfoods which is all organic and that is near the City Hall or M&S which has a big food department opposite Debenhams. Iceland is in Anglia Square about 15 minutes walk north of the city and dotted around the outskirts you've got the normal Asda, Waitrose, Sainsburys and Tesco Extra.

Norwich is brilliant for shopping. There are 5 major areas for shopping in Norwich. Chapelfield is a big new shopping centre with lots of up-market chains like House of Fraser, Levis, Bank but also with a huge Borders, Pizza Hut and H&M. Then you've got Castle Mall which is a bit lower-market but still a nice place to shop, it's almost totally underground but it's built into the side of Castle Hill and that's got places like Boots, Peacocks, Zavvi and Burger King. Then you've got the actual city-centre which is a lovely place to shop, it's always bustling and nicely laid out. By the market you have Jarrolds, a huge independent department store, then you have HMV, WH Smiths, Starbucks, Topshop, Primark, Next, Pret all of that jazz. You also have a big Debenhams, M&S and the market itself which is worth a browse.

After that going to the north you have The Lanes which are little backstreets and they are my favourite place, lots of charity shops, fashion boutiques, shoe shops and stuff like that. I would reccomend Soundclash Records on St Benedicts Street; a great independent music shop and also there is a wonderful record store down by St Gregory's which has tonnes of cheap records and upstairs lots of cheap DVDs. Finally you've got Anglia Square. Skanky basically. If you are realllly short on cash you've got the 99p Store, Iceland, QD, Roys, a cheap cinema. It's really grotty but when needs must.

As for going out and restaurants I couldn't really say much about going out as I normally go out in Great Yarmouth but a few places I could reccomend would be The Arts Centre, they have some brilliant gigs on and especially come to Dance. Go. Stop. Woah. in September which my friend organises, it's wild and alot of my friends play sets and stuff. The Birdcage is a very nice pub, it's another kind of 'indie' place where you won't find any chavs. The Castle is a gay bar I've been to a few times, bit of a dive. I'm afraid I can't think of anywhere really quiet off the top of my head but there are plenty of places so just look around til you find somewhere, especially around Tombland.

Restaurant wise you are spoilt for choice. Pizza Express has two lovely chains, one overlooking the brilliant, glass-clad Forum which is brilliant in the summer and one in stylish St Benedict's Street. Pulse is a vegetarian restaurant above Rainbow Superfoods which is cheap and good quality if you feel peckish. By the Cathedral is the major pubbing area of the city called Tombland which I avoid by night but on a weekday evening they have good bar-restaurant places like All-Bar-One and what-not which are nice places to eat and in the day they have tables outside and it's a good place to sit. You've also got the usual Wetherspoons and Slug & Lettuce for cheap, hearty meals. During the day I'd go for Pret a Manger, The Garden Soup Café or Marmalades Coffee Shop for somewhere nice to eat and Bar Marzano's in The Forum is where the indie crowd meets up both in the day and to listen to jazz at night it's "the place to be".

Oh my word. I've just realised how much I've written. Sorry that's attrociously long. I just have alot to say about Norwich I suppose. Hope that's of help if you can be bothered to read it but once you have you can pretend to be a local. :yep:

You should come and see me in Great Yarmouth :yep:

Although to be honest I spend more time in Norwich than I do in this dump. There are a few good pubs here though. Back to Backs or Kings or The Feathers.

Ahh, I love Norwich lanes. I did my work experience there, my favourite manga shop is there, and it's just such a pretty area.

Oh, and there's another Iceland, at the top of St. Stephen's Street by the roundabout, so that's only a few minutes away from college too

Someone actually reads my blog

Good grief, that is shocking news. I might go to Norwich tomorrow actually, I haven't been in a week (shock horror) and I want to buy a book from Borders since I finnished George Orwell last night.

I don't tend to go in on Sundays- I can't afford to pay for the bus and my ticket only works on First, which doesn't run on Sundays (cue anti-First rant). Plus I need to stay at home as I'm waiting to hear back about a cat I want to adopt.

I love the pictures on your blog. Do you take them yourself?

Lol. I think we've totally hijacked Rocker's thread. Sorry.

Do you have MySpace or Facebook or MSN or something. Or we could just PM.

PM sounds fine :p:

Yup, sorry Rocker. Eventhough he's not online. Ah well.

I just finished at CCN. I was a bit cut off from most of it (Access course, we were kind of stuffed in the corner somewhere) but apart from the usual organisational screwups it was a good place to learn. The tutors/lecturers were all really approachable, and everyone on my course was friendly. Can't really fault it on those grounds.

I'm not great at Norwich geography since my days involved legging it to and from the train station, but I see you're quite well covered for that anyway
