Asking someone out confusion?

Hi guys, me and this guy I like are sort of dating (not official, kissed, talked about future together etc). We are currently on lockdown so haven’t been able to see each other, but he said that his friends asked him “when are you going to ask ____ out?”
What would you interpret this as? Going out on a date (weird because we can’t go out of the house) or to be bf and gf. Thank you :smile:
I think they meant the second option (to be boyfriend and girlfriend) cause no one would be risking their lives at this point during corona lockdown.

Thanks for the reply, that’s what I thought because we both are 100% isolating so wouldn’t feel comfortable meeting up during such a crucial time, but I didn’t want to presume and get my hopes up
