Sausage Fest

Is lufbra actually like this or not? I've got older mates who go there and one said it is and the other said it isn't but he aint really that social so i dont know how often he goes out and actually would have a chance to go to the SU and clubs etc. I've been strongly advised to do engineering there by one of my teachers as it's supposed to be one of the best unis in england for it but this is the only thing putting me off applying there for 09 the moment.

Oxbridge, Imperial, Southampton, Bristol, Edinburgh, Bath, Cardiff, Newcastle are all better anyway

I aint got the grade potential for oxbridge and imperial though so its wasting choices isnt it.

ah fair does. My mates cousin is there and he always texts him saying how ace it is and it's one pound a pint.

As has been remarked before (often, and accurately), the male:female ratio depends entirely on the course that you are doing. Engineering, CompSci (to a lesser degree) and maths have a high male population (as can be said for many subjects where the focus is on adaptation, and new thinking. Many of the subjects which involve the repetition of information (medicine, sports science, etc) tend to have a higher proportion of girls.

Of course, if this is the deciding factor in your university coices, there will undeniably be more preferable choices (I can't name any, simply because I chose my unis mainly on academic prowess, so didn't bother researching the subject of "sausage fest"s).

From a purely sexist viewpoint, you are rarely short of eye candy.

in my Compsci class the ratio is like 9:1 but in Psychology its more like 2:8. go figure.

Lufbra? Really? Lufbra?!

Loughborough is reknowned for its sporting facilities, so it's somewhat likely to have a higher ratio of men:women, but you should check official figures to be sure (they're only a google search away). And like Lara C. said, it depends entirely on your course. Interestingly enough if I get into Cambridge I'll be combining Compsci and Psychology in my first year, so the gender balance should equal out a tad :p:
Loughborough is known for sports and engineering so of course there will be a lot of guys. The ratio is 4 guys to 1 girl so you do the maths. At the end of the day, slant can be put on it being 'course dependant' but depends if you want to look at the overall picture or not.

Also depends on your interests out side of your course too. I was surrounded by guys all through lectures, but then my clubs (dance one year and cheerleading for the past couple of years) were the other way around.

And again depends a little on your choice of hall too. Butler, Elvyn and David Collett are all known for extemely high numbers of guys due to their proximity to the engineering end of campus. Although now they're building all the new halls that might change.

If ur a guy and ur not hot, forget getting laid lol! If you are hot... / half decent... you'll be fine.

Seriously how bad is the ratio... You have me worried now since it is my firm choice!
LOL

Seriously, it's not like you're going to be exposed to everyone at the university and it's unlikely your group of friends is going to be representative of the whole population. If you want to and choose to affiliate yourself with more girls than guys then you will undoubtedly see more girls. Problem sorted.

Personally, I don't really notice the ratio at all although I'd like to know where people are getting the ratio figure from.

You have no need to be, to be honest 3rd/4th years by on large are never around lol if your a fresher you and 2nd years will pretty much have the run of the union for a year. Thats the expereince I had anyway... but seriously yeah if ur a boy and ur a ming forget it lol. The one thing i hate about loughborough are how absurdly hot some of the guys are. We have two gyms luffs and powerbase the second is the elite one but even luffs when you go in and you look at some of the guys its like  :woo: haha! im just jealous me finks! But yeah nothing to wory about, not really!!! And another thing... we have loads of international students, mainly chinese but they work reallly hard and never come out anyway... maybe thats why the ratio is so bad but you don't really notice it? Loads of international students don't really go out not sure if anyone allready here agrees with that ..

The situation at Nottingham is reversed (more girls than guys) and it's a bigger place anyways, so if you boys are all really feeling that hard done by then you'll just have to fork out for a trip over there!
seriously, ffs, how many times can this be asked???

If you're gonna get a girl, you'll get a girl. Whether there are 20:80 or 50:50 is not the deciding factor.

Loughborough is a great uni, has great facilities, and a great union.

If you are not a complete social ****** you will meet new people, and SHOCK HORROR, some of those will be girls!!

(sorry for the rant, but is the penis to boobs ratio really that important to some people?)

:yep: ! But they are really picky lol! its the oppsite at nots the guys are all disgusting i went to the notts union (which is crap btw) and gosh ive never seen so many paunches! :P ha!

I don't really agree with you about the facilities tbh they are pretty average... i can't belive we have shuch a crap gym when we're so well known for sports. On the other hand loughborough is just an amazing place to study... im not sure why, its defo not the facilities cause they're nothing special, I think its the union more than anything ... but yeah i wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the midlands!
