I’ve managed to stay and become better friends with my ex than we were before or during our relationship. It did require some time though before this was possible

In future? Probably not. But I have done it. I'm still friends with someone I dated for three years and had plans on marrying. Mind the first year and a half after we broke-up was rough and we'd argue whenever we attempted to talk to each other. That led to me taking a long break from our mutual group of friends, especially during a four month period when I dated someone else in it. But another person reached out and asked me to get more involved again, and since then it's been okay and we talk daily via a group chat. I was even playing video games with him and his mum last night (in a big group of like ten of us). :lol:
