PGCE admission for International applicants (Nigeria)

Hi there,

I'm an international aspirant for the PGCE secondary mathematics course at Chester starting september 2021, I'm domiciled in Nigeria. Here's my question:

(1) Are virtual interviews accepted by the university considering my country is far away. If no, would it be possible to negotiate a favorable time for the face-to-face interview since I would be seeking temporary leave from my present job in Nigeria to fly all the way to UK.

(2) What's the provision for a prior UK classroom observation (2 weeks) because I understand that forms part of the conditions for an offer. Could the school assist me with that upon attending the face-to-face interview and having passed the interview when I arrive in the UK.

PS I have previously studied in the UK, MSc mathematics 2015 university of chester. I also was offered a PGCE place at Liverpool hope university in 2016 while I was in the UK (passed the interview, literacy and numeracy test, plus observed at catholic high school chester). I deferred the PGCE place for family reasons as I had to return to Nigeria.

(3) Is the full tuition fee for PGCE secondary maths at present for international students, and do I get any scholarship as alumnus. I have perused the website but found it a bit confusing. Kindly clarify.

Thanks

Hello @Hilary Okoh,

We have been in touch with the International Centre and he Faculty of Education and Children's services who have responded to your questions, please see the responses below:

1. The department are accepting Skype interviews during this time.

2. The two weeks UK classroom observation is no longer an entry requirement. However, we do recommend gaining some school experience, but this is not a necessity.

3. Unfortunately, the International Merit Alumni Scholarship is not provided to alumni who are accepted onto any of the PGCE courses. The full course fee for International students is £12,450 for 2020/1 entry.

I hope this helps, if you have any questions regarding the course please contact the Faculty of Education and Children's Services at [email protected]. If you have any questions regarding the entry requirements then you can email [email protected].

Thanks,
Alex
