Hi all,

Hope it's okay to post on here.

Please could you take 5 minutes to complete the below survey which is “Investigating Fan Perception on Commercialisation of Their Professional Football Clubs: England's Top 4 Tiers”. This piece aims to recognise whether football fans today feel as though they're treated like fans or customers by their club as a result of the influx of money in today's game.

Any questions feel free to let me know.

Questionnaire > https://northumbria.onlinesurveys.ac...fan-perception

Thanks in advance.

I have done yours - please could you do mine. It is 5 mins at most.

I strongly think football especially the premier league is becoming too commercialised with tv money and sponsors etc. and the gulf between PL clubs and the rest will have severe consequences. Even replica shirts/ merchandise are overpriced at times and it definitely feels like I am being taken advantage as a fan from tv companies such as Sky/BT where I have to pay extra money on top of a virgin media subscription to watch England internationals or Champions League/Europa league games when 10 years ago they were all on sky sports - I no longer bother paying to watch these anymore.

I am also a fan of a league one club and think a lot of clubs in the lower leagues will struggle to stay in existence and sadly the demise of clubs like Bury are not going to be too surprising especially now due to the coronavirus and clubs not receiving any money due to not playing matches.
I also prefer the lower league and I can tell when I go to places like Southend/Doncaster how much the clubs rely on local fans to survive and to me it is more about the football than the money as these clubs have little success compared to PL clubs like the top 6 but have more of a community atmosphere which I think commercialisation has destroyed.

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to fill in my questionnaire and also the very detailed feedback that you've left below.

Completely agree with everything that you said, I feel as though the higher a club goes up the leagues the more they can be treated as a customer rather than a fan without the risk of losing a large group of 'supporters'. Don't know if you've seen but Andy Holt (Accrington Stanley Chairman) is very vocal on Twitter about how Coronavirus is going to effect clubs in League One and Two, think there could be many more clubs who go into administration before this is all over.

Really like how you've done your research, a lot of people will answer that and not even realise that they may be choosing their idea based on race. You should get some very interesting feedback from it. All the best.
