hi I'm looking for accommodation and stuck between James Baillie and Montague Burton. I really like JB but am worried that as its oversubscribed I may not get it. Do you know if Montague Burton is good socially?

Hi, I’m currently trying to choose my accommodation. I want somewhere that is close to campus (preferably an en-suite) and not too oversubscribed. I’m thinking of applying to Leodis. How likely is it that I will get Leodis? Is it oversubscribed in comparison to other residences? Also is there a way of stating on my application that I don’t want to be placed further than 1 mile away from the main campus?

Please feel free to suggest any other alternative residences I could consider that suit my criteria. I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance to whoever answers this

Everyone I know at Leodis loves living there, it is a bit oversubscribed but not at all like central village/ Henry price is. Places with a en-suite close to campus that probably won’t be oversubscribed are the tannery and sentinel towers but personally I think it’s worth applying to leodis over them as imo it’s nicer! If your willing to not have an en-suite I would suggest applying to montague burton as this is a great accommodation that’s usually not oversubscribed and is really close to campus and just been refurbished. Personally I’ve not found sharing a bathroom any issue at all this year but I guess that’s up to you!

Thank you so much for reassuring me about applying to Leodis. And I’ll definitely be checking out Montague Burton too.
How far are Central village and Leodis to campus? Which one is closer to campus? Which one would you recommend between these 2?

What course are you applying for that’s makes a difference to where your lectures will be? central village is closer to campus - it’s right next to it but if your doing something like business or engineering it’s further. Leodis is only a 5-10 minute walk from most places.

It depends what your looking for they are both nice - central village has what people would typically consider nicer rooms and kitchens as it’s almost like a hotel while leodis maybe looks a bit rougher. Central is potentially less sociable but having said that it really depends on your flat mates there’s not a rule for which place is more sociable.

It depends on what sort of thing your looking for in an accommodation but I’m sure you’d like both as both are nice places

Hey guys anyone have any knowledge of how lyddon hall and charles morris (dobree whetton) compare in terms of room size, over subscription and the overall atmosphere eg is it sociable as they seem comparable in terms of cost for an ensuite room.
hey,I firmed leeds in January and choose James Baillie ages ago,I was wondering since it's partnered with unite are all students from different uni's in Leeds allowed to apply or is it only for University of Leeds students

I lived in Monty B this year and I loved it - it was really sociable, the new common room will be open from next year as well! closer to uni and less oversubscribed than James Baille as well

I'm thinking of applying to Monty B, what did you think of it? Would you recommend a same sex flat or mixed? Did you find the 9 room flats or 4 room flats better? I'm still not sure about it ahah

I loved it and everyone I’ve ever spoken to there thought it was great. I found it really sociable and In my block we all socialised between flats. It’s also a great location and despite not being en-suite it’s never an issue sharing bathrooms and it’s not too far to walk from the city unlike some of the accommodations towards Headingley.

Personally I would go for a mixed flat I think you’ll meet a greater variety of people and I would definitely suggest putting that you want a 9 person flat as it increases your opportunity of finding someone you get on with and the flats are bigger and you have a better ratio of toilets and showers

hey! i lived in charles morris whetton block last year, rooms in lyddon hall are A LOT bigger than those in charles morris which is stupid bc charles morris is more expensive, dobree and whetton have both shared bathrooms (jack and kill) and en suites, whereas storm jameson has just en suite. dobree/whetton shared bath rooms are slightly bigger than the en suite ones but storm jameson rooms are much more modern. in terms of subscription id say cm is more oversubscribed than lyddon but i dont think youd have too much of a problem, overall atmosphere in cm seemed to be more sociable but theyre both very good, there was always pres in flats every night. overall im loyal to CM anyone would have a great time there, if i were you id base it on how big you want the room to be, cm ones are defo tolerable tho.

soz for the essay, hope this helps

The application menu is not showing up all the residences so I'm guessing I can't apply to these anymore. Anyone know the most sociable residences between: Devonshire, Ellerslie , iQ, Liberty Dock, Lupton, Lyddon, Oxley, Sentinel, Tannery?

Out of those if I was picking:
1st choice: ellerslie or lyddon
2nd choice: Devonshire, Lupton or iq
3rd choice: sentinel Or tannery
Avoid at all costs: oxley and liberty dock

this is personal preference though it depends on what sort of things you prioritise

Has the application deadline passed yet? Cause if not you should be allowed to apply to them all I would assume. I'd send the accomodation team and email about it - I know some other people have had issues with certain accommodations not showing up as options because of errors with their account and it was fixed by emailing them.

Sociability is such a hard one to pinpoint because it ultimately depends on who you get in your flat/block really. If distance is an issue for you however I wouldn't go for Oxley or Liberty Dock as both are very far from campus. A friend who stayed in oxley last year really struggled at times to get to and from places because the bus services were not the best in that area. I don't really know much about the others so I can't really give advice on the others, sorry!

I'm having a similar problem, only a few of the residences are appearing on the portal, according to the website we have until July the 1st to make a decision and I thought that we wouldn't be disadvantaged In any way as long as I applied for the accomodation before the deadline. I want to apply for City side but it isn't appearing on the system for some reason :/

From my experience they don't disadvantage anyone as long as you apply before the deadline whether that's the day before or weeks before. They don't start allocating accomodation to well after the deadline. The only advice I can give is to email them! Some people have been having issues where their accounts are registered as returning students rather than new students so not all accom are shown. Emailing seems to fix most of these issues!
Sorry I couldn't be more help haha.

Ahh I've emailed them today and I noticed that it did say that I was a 'returning UG', that might be the problem like you mentioned. I hope they fix it for me. Thanks for the help!

It's been sorted out now, if anyone else is having any issues with their Leeds Accomodation application, send them an email and they'll sort it out for you. Originally I was classed as a returning undergraduate and now they changed it to a new undergraduate and I'm able to apply for any residence now!

hey, I am sorry for advertising here. I have a room in Hyde Park and my housemate is trying to get a replacement tenant too. It's 85 per week without bills. It takes 13-17 mins or less to the university. If you or you and a friend are looking for a place, please message me. I urgently need at least one replacement tenant.
Hey!
I'm planning to study at Leeds this year and I still haven't chosen the accommodation.

Could anyone point me in a good direction when it comes to Accommodation at Leeds University? I'm looking for Self-Catered En-Suit not too far away from the campus preferably in a good well-manered area.

Thanks in advance!
