Quitting apprenticeship

Hey,

I’ve started an apprenticeship recently and really regret it. My employer has no idea what an apprenticeship entails and I’m not receiving any support. Additionally, I’m finding the work tedious and boring, and I don’t think this is what I want anymore. I’ve been told to contact my provider but how do I clearly put this? I’m very afraid they’ll use tell me to stick through it.
It is a business admin apprenticeship I took on spontaneously due to my parents pressure to do something good with my life.
Additionally, there’s been funding issues raised, would this get rid of all my funding if in the future I want to try another apprenticeship? How would I even go about getting qualifications then?
I’m trying to come up with a plan to leave but also keep options open for when I truly decide what I want.
Any advice is appreciated thanks

Hi - hoping I can offer some help here.

I am sorry to hear you are not enjoying your apprenticeship and also to hear you are not receiving support.

If you're not enjoying it and have decided it's not what you want to do you can leave under the terms of your apprenticeship contract. I would first advise reading your contract to check if there is a notice period that you need to work before you can leave.

I would talk to the training provider as well so that they can take you off the course which then allow you to re-enrol for something else should you wish to.

You are free to leave an apprenticeship, it's very much like leaving a job, you will however not be able to complete any qualifications you have been working towards unless you find a new employer to carry this on with and there is normally a time period in which you need to do this by.

As you have not completed the apprenticeship and therefore not received the qualification you should still be able to receive funding for a different apprenticeship in the future especially if it is in a different subject. There is no upper age limit to apprenticeships and no apprentice is expected to fund the costs of the course, this is done by the employer and depending on your age may be contributed towards by the government. Not all employers are looking for school or college leavers for apprenticeships with more and more adults starting apprenticeships than ever before so this shouldn't impact you into the future.

I would also advise taking some time to try and figure out what it is you would ideally like to do, you might find our careers assessment useful on our website to help you get started - https://beta.nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/

Good luck and we are more than happy to help further if you have any more questions.

Thanks - Sophie.
