Is something else driving CO2 emissions?

Why not help the rest of humanity and make a start by removing yourself from the gene pool.
Can we have an intellectual conversation here? Even the likes of David Attenborough, reviered by liberals and environmentalists, claims the biggest threat to the earth is overpopulation and reducing population is the key to helping the enviornment.

But most flights are grounded,
Not a major source of emissions
oil production is at an all time low basically
Since when?

I believe most people who are dying of CV19 would have died anyway
Yeah, because those who have recovered are actually immortal and won't ever die.

So this year CO2 emissions are expected to fall for the largest in decades - 5-5.5%.

But think about it: so shutting down half the world, and most developed countries, only reduces it by 5%? Surely this shows that it is basically impossible to reduce CO2 emissions properly, and that something else must be causing them?

You must remember that C02 is a natural product that has been emitted for eons, only the annual rise is really blamed by humans and that amounts to 1-2% per year (with the climate change being the result of sustained rises). As others have mentioned i am still sitting here on the internet in a country which produces ~45% of electricity from things that produce CO2. To reverse the rise you would need to see this fall in emmisions persist for a few decades.

No, the solution is less people,. unfrotuantely liberals and even many socialists ignore that the fundamental problem is overpopulation. More people means more resources and more emissions. It's not hard to understand really.
Only Africa really has a problem with population growth (food, water and energy growth all exceed population growth globally elsewhere) however the same liberals that suggest we damage our nation here bawk at the idea that we could cull the African fertility rate.

Good news.

CV19 killing people, less people.
Covid will not actually kill enough people to even prevent a global population rise this year.

The solution to the problem really is to colonise other planets. We need to work together more to achieve this rather than closing our eyes to the rationality of science. This is the most logical and ethical solution.
While i am all for technological development and space travel (space mining especially could significantly change the world we live in) i see little reason why we would work together to accomplish this rather than exploit the first mover advantage.
