Is York really full of ugly people?

Before anyone jumps on me, I know that york won't have all the ugly people in Britain in its area but is it actually true there is a shortage of good looking guys in the uni and in the city? :frown:
I want to apply to york as it has an excellent biology rep but there are just several other things that bother me (yes I know the one above may seem to be a trivial one) :

1. Its apparent lack of social scene - when I envision student life I see going to societies and doing sports etc. but I will also like to go clubbing maybe a couple of times a week and I do want a varied, interesting student experience so things I've read about York worry me quite a bit :s-smilie:

2. Ethnic diversity - I want to ask does York uni have ANY black people at all? Before anyone jumps on me again, I do currently go to an undiverse school now which is perfectly fine, however, the surrounding area outside the school is VERY diverse so I'm able to get ethnic food etc. but it seems that York city is also undiverse so I'm a bit worried. I do know of course that this is Britain so a majority of people will be white (and a majority are fine) but to be honest, I would prefer some diversity. Has there ever been any racial incidents either in York uni or the city? And are York uni & city people generally accepting? My current school now is lovely but they are surrounded by more diversity which could possibly be part of the reason

3. The campus itself - is it attractive or not? I'm not expecting anywhere to be this perfect wonderland but I am affected somewhat by my surroundings. How does the campus compare to somewhere, like say Nottingham?

4. When York says "may also be considered" (in regards to a subject, what does this actually mean? I want to do Biology but I plan to drop chemistry after AS level and they say applicants who do this "may also be considered" Does anyone know how likely it is they will take me if I do this, especially as they say they expect Biology to be in clearing? Has anyone here/known anyone who's gotten in with a "may be considered subject"?

Sorry didn't realise this was gonna get this long :o:

Ugliness is subjective.

You're so vein....
Yorkie? It's not for girls.
Can't be. Laus is going there :teeth:
1.) There is no social scene, because you go to York to study, nothing else.

2.) You're not white? Errr.... well, perhaps you should ring the admissions office, they're not very lenient on this sort of thing.

3.) If York were Hyde park Nottingham would be Regents Park.

4.) It means that without it you will stand a worse chance than other applicants and they may raise their offer to compensate for this.

Can't talk for the uni, because I'm not a student here, it's my home.

What you need to remember is that York's a small city. Total population is not much beyond 100,000. An awful lot of the local university age people will all be away at their unis across the country, meaning all those remaining are the incoming students or those who didn't go to uni. York's also an older city, think after the last census the average was into the 30s.

Socialwise, the city's fine. Endless bars and pubs, something for everyone's taste, you've just got to get out there and find it.

Diversity? Well, York is something like 96% white. No reason for it, it's just the way it is. Never been any racist incidents here as long as I can remember, and my parents have never talked about any either [my mum's from Bradford, she'd have noticed it if there was :p:].

From what I've seen on the campus [limited, I'll admit] it's as good as Nottingham.

And lastly, thanks for calling me ugly:rolleyes:
HAHAHAHAHA sorry, just had to laugh at the thread title. A lot of people shall take offence to that, me included.

But on a more serious note:
1. York doesn't have many clubs and such, but if you want a good night out, then you can have a good night out. I'm at uni in Newcastle, and in comparison there aren't that many clubs or even student nights, but its still a good night out - especially since everything is so packed together and you don't have far to go to get to places. I don't know much about the uni stuff however (I'm a resident)

2. Well my opinion on ethnic diversity is that its limited, VERY limited. But if all your bothered about is "food" then you'll have no problem. As far as I'm aware, there have been no major incidents (in fact, my asian friends have had more hassle moving away from home) and everyone is generally accepting, but maybe that's just from a younger persons perspective?

3. The campus is very pretty (in the surrounding area) though some of the buildings leave a little to be desired with the "concrete" theme. But its all set out around a lake with DUCKS!

4. Don't know much about the uni, apart from that they don't take you without Chemistry (at least at AS)... from personal experience
When I went to the University of York Open Day, I did notice that I didn't see anyone good looking. It was my mum that pointed it out first but then I started to see what she was on about too...
Maybe I was in the wrong place at the wrong time though!
I was the under the impression that it was full of nymphomaniac drama and english students

I think that it should be pointed out that the so called 'lake' is nothing more than a large pond with lots of SMELLY ducks in it & weeds. It's not actually very pretty.

um. I can't speak for the uni itself but the town has a decent amount of good looking guys but then, depends on your tastes?
As for ethnic diversity, its a large majority of white people here. Also it's quite expensive here I think so probably quite well off in terms of social class. As for acceptance, I don't really know anyone who has a problem with that and I assume the uni is quite laid back. I'm not saying there are no other ethnicities but I cant comment completely since I don't go to the uni but I did attend a night class there and there were Chinese, African, Norwegian and Australian as well as English. (Not all that many, though.) As for social scene, there are about 5ish clubs? dunno might be some more, but I haven't been out that much. One of the main ones is called The Gallery. There are tons of pubs (some say there is one for every day of the year....) and plenty of bars too. So if you're not wanting to club all the time you can always go for a more relaxed atmosphere.
The campus is ugly. It looks like a grey concrete city that has been abandoned for years, allowing areas of grass to spring up in patches and ducks to walk around...I think it would be really quite creepy if there weren't many people around.

Errr, wtf, Sheffield is next to Rotherham, which as we all know is where the dregs of British society all reside.
Yepperz.

and by picking Sheffield you're a winner. All the hotties are at Hallam though, apparantly. (And this is according to Sheffield University girls with whom I am friends).

You have blatantly never been to Sheffield.
