Preston or Manchester for night life

Hi, I have UCLan as my Insurance and just have a few questions.

Hi i was just wondering how far is Preston from Manchester city centre and the best route of transport to get ther? Also how is the preston nightlife compared to that of Manchester city centre?

Also when applying for accomondation, are you expected to pay rent for the full year in the contract or can you pay in 3 monthly installments?

Thanks:wink:

preston is about 40 minutes by train from manchester, im guessing this because blackpool in just shy of an hour away from manchester and Preston is 20 minutes away from blackpool (train times), i'd personally say go to manchester for a better night life given that preston is filled with old people from what ive seen of the place anyway. I think train is the quickest and easiest, though be warned ive seen alot of chavs on the trains and they can be really annoying! oo and as a side note if your interested preston is 2hours 45 minutes away from london euston by train which is amazing and i only discovered this train recently. Thats a hell of alot quicker than the car!

Regarding nightlife:

Preston's nightlife is ok. Nowhere near the level of choice you'll find in Manchester, but there's one good club each night at least, and of course plenty of smaller bars and pubs.
If you're someone who prefers more choice, Manchester's just under an hour away by train (the best travel option), with cheap ticket prices.

Regarding Accommodation:

In university accommodation, rent is paid in September and again in January. Private accommodation payment dates differ from place to place, with many requesting rent in August/September, January, and April.

after living pretty much all my life in and around preston. i would say the nightlife is pretty rubbish compared to somewhere like manchester. way too many chavs. manchester by train is very easy though.

Manchester is always going to be better. But I reckon Preston's pretty good for alternative nights, if you into you're rock/metal/punk/indie etc. I've already got three nights a week filled (not that I'll be rich enough to go too all three every week). Can't say much about other places. All I can say is, experienced Lava once. And I was wasted before I even got there. I reckon it's ok with the right people and don't take it seriously.

Having sampled both cities, I can say that Manchester has an amazing night life, but Preston does a bloody good job! Preston has better focused student nights each night of the week, whereas in Manchester, student night is Thursday night, and that's that.

Preston is very much a student city. Most things are based around students cos its them who bring the money in.

Having lived in manchester all my life i can say tht the nightlife there is going to be much better than that of preston but expect to have to look around to find somewhere within budget.
Preston is also a good night from my experience.

And there are definately student nights in manchester pretty much ever night too
