Surds and Indices - HELP

Maths Q.png

Can someone please help me out.
In the answers, it says that p = 3/2 and that q= 1 .
I'm not great at Maths, but i did multiply the whole thing by root x over root x (rationalising the surd).

By doing that I got 2x to the power of 3/2. So i got the first bit right.
But for q, something went wrong. When simplifying i got a completely wrong answer.

Bearing in mind, this question is only two marks.
Why dont you change the denominator into x^-1/2 and multiply it by the whole numerator?

Ahh, thanks.
Your method is so much easier and quicker. But even using your method, i cant seem to simplify 3x/2 multiplied by x^-1/2 to give me x^1 as that is what the answer should be.
