Marking your answers to past papers

Doing Past papers is regarded the best thing to do if aiming for top Marks. I'm doing AQA GCSE biology, I do past papers but I dont know how to mark my self by looking at the mark scheme. Does everything have to be word for word in your answer as in the mark scheme. Please help me in doing this and include an example???

your answers don't have to be word for word in order to get all the marks, as long as what you are saying is correct. in the question why do plants with TMV have stunted growth, this is the mark scheme:
less photosynthesis because of lack of chlorophyll
therefore less glucose made
so
less energy released for growth
because glucose is needed for respiration
and /or
therefore less amino acids / proteins / cellulose for growth
because glucose is needed for making amino acids / proteins /
cellulose

however you can still get all the marks for saying TMV destroys the chlorophyll there for reducing photosynthesis as chlorophyl is needed for the process. this then means less glucose is made for growth, therefore growth is stunted
