1st year accomodation opinions? Henry Price/Montague Burton/ White Rose View?

Hi everyone,
I've put Leeds as my firm and am trying to choose the best accommodation. So far, I am leaning towards Henry Price, Montague Burton or White Rose View (which is new this year).
I was wondering if anyone had any strong opinions about any of these? Obviously White Rose View is new, but what do you think about staying in the city centre? It's right in the middle I think, about 15 minutes from campus.
What's better - staying in the city or nearer campus do you think?

Thanks in advance

henry price is lovely but less than 1 in 6 people get it, and if you don’t you will get put in an accomodation which could be one that you really don’t like (most likely oxley or lupton) 40 mins away from the uni. so personally i would go for a less popular one like montague burton which you are more likely to get into

I stayed at Montague Burton for my first year so hopefully I can help if you have any specific questions about it!

Hi thanks for your reply
I do have some questions! How would you say the bathrooms are - is sharing an issue + are they nice in general because I can’t seem to find any pictures online?
Can you choose if you want to be in a flat of 4/9 - and if you can choose which option is better?
Overall would you recommend - how’s the social life there?
Thanks in advance

The bathrooms are fine honestly! The showers and toilets are all separate form each other so no queueing to use the loo if someone's showering. For a 9 person there are 3 separate toilets and 3 separate showers (so basically 3 people per thing) and in the 4 person I believe it is 1 of each. I never had issues with using the stuff, never had to queue and they were cleaned once a week by staff so weren't dirty either. All of the girls were up one end of the corridor and three of the four lads were down the other end so we did a bit of a split where the top two toilets and shower were mainly for the girls and the bottom two showers and loo were for the boys. There's also sinks in your rooms and let me tell you it is weird but convenient! I miss having a sink in my room now that out of halls haha.

You can't choose as far as I'm aware but if you put preference as single sex then you're more likely to be in a 4 person. Every 4 person I knew was single sex (but not everyone who was in one chose single sex) while all 9 person flats I knew were mixed. I'm quite an introverted person and cause of where I lived I had never been to clubs before and stuff and being in a 9 person was amazing. Everyone was great and there was never a dull moment whether it was pres, nights out, film nights, etc. People always say its a lot of people and it did sound like it when I moved in but 9 felt perfect and when one of my flatmates dropped out and left it felt sorta empty. I'm not really sure about the 4 person flat but a friend really enjoyed living in his and made 2 brilliant friends from there who he lives with now.

Overall I'd definitely reccomend! Wouldn't want to spend my first year anywhere else. Cheap, social, and nicely refurbished. In freshers week they hold drinks nights and bbqs in the bbq areas and throughout the year they bring in random stuff like free crepe stalls and ice cream vans. It's a lovely little community feel and the huge lounge areas in the 9 persons make it awesome for drinks and parties. I ended up moving in with one flatmate and another friend from a different flat in monty b for my second year.

I'm not sure if the link still works but here's a link to some photos I took a few years back on an accom viewing day (it was a 4 person flat): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/v22wtrwovy104vm/AAC4WVMJYQbJbg-xNCgxKG7Ra?dl=0

Hi again haha
My friend is going to Leeds too, and considering staying away from campus - in the new White Rose View Accommodation in the city centre.
In your opinion, is this a good idea - or is it better to be nearer campus. I’m afraid that staying further away might be isolating as there are no other accommodations close to White Rose. What do you think?
Thanks for any advice you can give!

If white rose is where I think it is, it's not too far away (unlike oxley and lib dock), just a 10-ish minute walk into town.
I don't think it'll make too much of a difference tbh, they'll have to get up earlier for lectures but other than that they should be fine! You make friends from many places inc. your flat, your course, societies, other groups, etc. so their social life should be fine.
I don't know much about the place at all (didn't even exist when I applied haha) but it looks nice and if they really like it then I'd say go for it. It's not so far away that it'd affect their experience imo.

I have firmed Leeds too. Was looking for something close to campus with an en suite but wanted something sociable. I had initially planned to choose central village but I read somewhere that it isn’t too sociable. What would you recommend?

Sociability really depends on who your flatmates and other people around you are so it's hard to predict based on accomodation. I know some people who lived in both central village and cityside and they all enjoyed living there. Super close to campus, really big rooms but pretty expensive is all I really know. I know people who lived in leodis too which is an en-suite close to campus so maybe look into that too if you're worried?
Sorry I couldn't be more help!

I lived in Montague Burton this year (this is shared though but really isn't ever an issue if you ever consider changing your mind about ensuite) Some of my best mates lived in Central and the rooms and kitchens are really nice. The only reason people say it's less sociable is because theres a lot of international students who can be less sociable and the tower block layout may make it harder to socialise with other flats but really it depends on your flats I know lots of really sociable central and cityside flats. At the end of the day it's a very good location if you can afford it and you flatmates aren't everything you make loads more frinds through your course/societies
