Natural ways to reduce blood LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterolWatch
A post here for a specific member of TSR, but hopefully others will find it useful, too.
Eskimos very rarely suffer from "heart attacks" (MI = myocardial infarction) OR even milder forms of IHD, and it has been shown, [in the pioneering days, by Dr David Horrobin], that this is due to their almost exclusive diet of oily fish, which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids [eicosapentaenoic acid] and DHA [docosahexaenoic acid].
A diet rich in these fatty acids [up to 10 g/day] slows down the rate of atherosclerosis by beneficially altering the blood lipid profile [such a diet also has the beneficial effect of reducing LDL [bad] cholesterol and increasing HDL [good] cholesterol levels in the blood].
This should be useful to all human beings, in the context of their own health, but also for clinicians in advising their patients.
