Well, we've had our second HMI checkup. All went well, it seems but some still don't understand
differentiation in teaching. I have taken umbrance (sp?) at the fact that the HMI who saw my science
lesson said that my lowest ability pupils should have been writing instead of doing a collage of the
human life cycle - these, mind you, are the ones who can't write well. He completely ignored the
majority of the pupils who WERE writing instead of "sticking pictures."

The HT tried to gloss it over by saying that maybe he didn't see that part - even if he hadn't seen
it, it was in the lesson plan - the differentiation was there to be seen by all. 'Twould have been
different if none of the groups had been doing any writing - it would be a valid criticism, imo.
What got me was that the feedback to the HT (who fed back to me) implied that ALL of the children
were just sticking pictures!! This REALLY pisses me off royally and is, in my observation,
fraudulant.

The other inspector saw my math lesson and her feedback, which she gave me directly, was easily
understood. She saw some things that could be improved and they were honest.

All in all, however, the school did okay. They were impressed with the amount of progress.
Interestingly, they recommended reducing our literacy hour to just an hour instead of the hour and a
half, saying we could use the half hour for writing in other curriculum areas, etc. Nevermind, of
course, that English is the subject with the lowest results and that we'd lose anywhere from 5-10
minutes of it in swapping back to home groups. WE all like the extra half hour
- and even that's sometimes not enough!!

*sigh* Ya can't win.....
