Hi there,

Firstly, may I ask which area of the law you are mainly interested in? e.g. Corporate , Criminal etc. Are you looking for programmes which are more suited to those who are considering the Solicitor route or Barrister route?

I did work experience at a HSBC branch and Deloitte in year 12. I think they're good to talk about on your personal statement for top unis but say how they link in to the subject your applying to.

Of course! , just adding on to that, university admission tutors essentially want to see a student who has great passion and interest in the subject they are applying for. So by being proactive and signing up to programmes related to your chosen course, It will instill the tutor with great confidence that you will succeed on their course.

Well, companies are offering virtual work experience programmes in light of the current situation. So if that means undertaking your work experience placement virtually on your laptop, then so be it.

Can I ask wether you are considering the solicitor route or barrister route?

I'd suggest having a look on the "PRIME" website. It'll provide you with a list of law firms offering work experience programmes in your chosen City.

Be sure to sign up to The Brokerage as they offer law related work experience and mentoring programmes in which you can be mentored 1-1 with a qualified lawyer at a firm.

Firms to consider can include: Clifford Chance, Allen and Overy, HFW (Holman Fenwick Willlan), Ashurst and Eversheds Sutherland.

Consider putting in an application for the "Pathways to Law" programme which will be run in conjuction with a chosen university. You'll be able to gain a work experience placement at a firm, a mentor and they offer loads of workshops.

I'm looking towards the Barrister route, looking mainly at Criminal, but am open to all areas.

For those interested in the barrister route, there are quite a few chambers that offer work experience programmes.
1) Matrix Chambers - matrix are a barristers chambers located in London that offer a programme.
2) Hardwicke - also based in london, they offer taster days and work experience weeks for sixth form students.
3) Exchange chambers - they offer 2 days worth of experience for students in Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester.

Hope this is of use to you!

All the best

I'm in year 12 now and I was told that we would do our work experience in year 13 instead. We are allowed to do it this year in the given time frame if the workplace you applied to will allow it and the situation that is going on begins to go back to normal.

Does your school organise and allocate work experience placements for you? Or do you self place yourself?

We organise the placements ourselves, but we do it within a specified week that the school decided so that we wouldn't be missing loads of lessons when we did our work experience.
