help!can u transfer from biochemistry to dentistry having not finished the course?

please can someone give me some advice!!asap!!!

i know iv left this a bit late but....im worried about results day and im thinking if i don't get the A in chemistry to study dentistry, should i apply for a course in biochemistry or pharmacy in clearing and then transfer to dentistry after the first year...

is that even possible?, particularly for manchester uni, will i be able to do that instead of taking a gap yr, or would my chances of studying dentistry be higher if i studied one of those courses, but not completely since i dont want to spend 8+ yrs in uni.

i'd really appreciate it if someone could help me with this problem

I know someone who did Biomedical Sciences and then went on to do medicine afterwards, if that's any help.

oh so did they finished their course studying biomedical sciences and then went on to study medicine?, do u know how long the biomed course was? thanks

no you have to finish ur biochemistry course and get at least a 2.1 in it and then reapply as a grad
very unlikely you will be able to transfer, i haven't heard of it, sorry.
yeah it's ot likely, you would probably be better of resitting some of your exams entering as a graduate is SO very competitive, more so than it is at this level, and there are universities that will still consider you even though you have resat a year. Anyway hope you did alright

thanks a lot for ur help and advice, i can stop kidding myself now about transferring, so u think id be better off taking a gap yr n then reapplying? im worried i still won't get in for denistry after a yr out since a lot of people say its even less likely ull get a place..but i reallllllly want to study dentistry!!!!

how do i reach my goal of studying dentistry, without having any offers at this moment in time..??? help.................

what grades did you get? They won't accept resits, so you need to make sure you've got the correct grades this year (I guess AAA/AAB, depending on the uni)?

it all depends on what your grades are. i had no offers first time round but managed to get AAB and took a gap yr to reapply and i managed to get an offer from my top choice!

wow really?!
ok well this is my situation:
my grades:
Arabic: A
Chemistry: B
Biology: B
Mathematics: B

with chem, bio n maths i could resit one module in each subject to bring each one up to an A coz i wasn't far off from the As, thats if im going to take a gap yr...i dont want to end up taking a gap yr n gettin no offers though...thats what im worried about..

btw u know when u applied again after the gap yr, did u apply to the same unis u applied to the yr before, coz i asked m/c uni if i were to take a gap yr n reapply would they consider me n they said no....

so what do u think i should do now...

is that your as or a-levels?
if its your a-levels then i would resit and try to pull those grades up but seeing that you had no offers first time around it might be difficult to get an offer as a reapplicant :frown:

when i reapplied i didn't apply to the same unis, the only ones i kept the same were kings and queen mary which i got interviews from (along with sheffield and leeds).

ok so did u have interviews from kings n queen marys before ur yr out? coz i had interviews from m/c uni and lpool uni (which were unsuccessful) and both unis advised me not to try again the next yr if i took a gap yr since theyd jst send a rejection.
n yes theyr my a level results...
i think i might take a gap yr n apply to all diff unis...not sure

first time around i was predicted rubbish grades but managed to get an interview from queen mary after which i was eventually rejected. i got rejected outright from my other choices, one of which was kings.
when i reapplied, i wasn't resitting anything though so that obviously helped my situation.

best thing to do would be to ring each uni you want to apply to and explain your situation.

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any universities where you can do an undergraduate degree in a science related subject and then go on to do dentistry which has been shortened so is no longer 5 years ?

I think only Newcastle and Goldsmiths offer the transfer. I applied for the newcastle one (didnt get it coz some guy told me i didnt need to renew my ukcat, after which i got a letter saying 'couldnt take application further due to invalid ukcat grrr) basically you apply after you get your 1st term exam results back, and you need an overall average of 75 (a good 1.1) and no less than 70 in any module - which i got, but it wasn't easy!

Hope that helps!

Edit; Sorry, just realised you posted that in 2008 - but it's still right if anyone else is wondering!
