Anyone wants questions answered about University?

Hello!
I’ve realized loads of people are asking questions about what University life is like, what’s it like living in the halls, what a typical students life looks like.
You can all ask questions here and I’ll try my hardest to get them answers for you! Most answers Will be answered from my own experiences. I study medicine (I’m doing my 2nd year... moving onto 3rd) so you could ask questions about the medicine courses too!
Hope you’re all safe !
I’m looking forward to answering your questions!

How do you make friends if you don't drink? Is it harder to make friends if you don't live in student accommodation? Are you more likely to make friends with people on your course or people who aren't and how do I go about that?

Sorry I just really don't want to be lonely at uni.
hi, i wanna do medicine too, im thinking to do biochemistry in uni. What do you think about the course? Is it hard? Im also just kinda unsure if i still wanna carry on doing it but im so interested in doing something related with medicine at uni, it would be helpful if u could tell me what another courses are there.( i wanna hopefully work in a lab and do drug research and find new vaccines and medicine)
Thank you.🙂

Hi, I think that's a great question. I think whilst there can be a lot of drinking at uni, you will definitely be able to meet people outside of these situations. I met most of my friends through societies and we would usually go and have coffee and play board games and stuff. I do drink so I also met people on nights out although, I would say that these relationships are not as deep as the friends that I met through societies. You would be surprised at the amount of people that don't drink and I haven't noticed people making a fuss out of it.

Best of luck and just remember, everyone is in the same boat and will be feeling a bit like a fish out of water! try and say hello to everyone you see in the first few weeks of uni, they may be just as worried about making friends as you

How does one go about joining societies? Do people at certain times? Is anyone gonna think it's weird that my curfew us going to be like 7pm?

There will probably be a fair in the first few weeks of term where all the societies come together to advertise (lots of free stuff so make sure to go!) depending on the type of society, you would be joining at different times. sports societies will usually only take people at one time but charity societies and ones that just meet for coffee and things should let you join whenever. About the curfew, some people might not understand but (most) people are more grown up at uni. It is a completely different atmosphere compared to school/college so I don't think its going to impact your ability to make friends.

My group of friends has a large mix of people that do/don't drink etc and we all make time to see each other regardless of jobs etc. Do you think you would be working at university? I work for my uni and have met a lot of cool people doing open days and stuff (the money is good too!)

I don't think I'll be working, I'm only 16 so there's a whole bunch of things I can't do yet when I go to uni. Thank you for all the lovely help, explanation and reassurance!
Rob (:
What do you do on weekends usually? I'm scared I'll be bored and wanting to go back home (3hrs away).
What time do societies/clubs typically start or end

Hey!
It’s easy to make friends even if you don’t drink! If you meet some good friends, they’ll accept the fact you don’t want to drink and you can sip orange juice and no one will take much notice of it!!
It might be a little harder to make friends if you don’t live in the student accommodation as you’re kind of ‘separated’. Unless you meet up after lessons often, it might be harder to get to know them better. But I’m sure that if you meet a good friend in class then you’ll stick together until the end!
You usually make friends with people who study the same course as you. Usually no one knows each other at the start so everyone is equally as awkward and lonely 😂. Once you meet a friend, they’ll introduce you to theirs and that’s how you meet new people!
Good luck and hope you find it easy to fit in quickly!!
Take care

I usually meet up with friends, maybe cook a meal together or go out partying.
There’s times when I have to study much for an upcoming assessment or practical so I spend my weekend working towards that.

It depends on the university
They’re usually open most nights from about 7-8pm to very late at night

Hey!
I think that the course is very interesting , and difficult... but to the point where it’s doable if you really concentrate. But you can do it! I’m going onto my 3rd year and I was in the same mindset as you.
The course is very interesting, some of the aspects are difficult... I found laboratory work a bit crazy. But once the first year goes by, it gets easier.
My huge passion was medicine so I did human biology. In this course we also learn aboit drug testing and how it’s done... I think you’d enjoy it if you’re into laboratory work.
Another subject that’s purely laboratory based and lectures of course) is chemistry/ biochemistry which focuses on medications and how they’re made... all that sort of stuff!
Wish you all the best!
Good luck!!

Remember that there’s plenty of clubs a little further away from the university too! You’d probably have to take a taxi to get there but they’re really fun too!
There’s many societies around the university as well as some that are very close.
Thank you for engaging with my conversation! If you need any more questions answered then I’ll be happy to help!

I will be 16 when I go to uni so I cannot go clubbing and I will also have a fairly early curfew as I'll still be living at home, which makes it difficult to make friends, hence when I was asking

Don’t worry!
There’s plenty of places you can go when you don’t drink/party. There’s cafes, skate parks, parks, shopping areas, there’s loads to do!
Theres always something going on!!

Hi! I have a few questions basically on how life is like i guess? Here it goes: what does your timetable for the week look like? what times do you usually have lectures/seminars? how much do you usually study? how much free time do you have and how often do you spend time with friends?
Do you think there's enough time in the week to have a job, volunteer and still have time to socialise and time for yourself?
Also, do you have to leave your dorms over breaks? And how often do people usually go home?
Thank you for this
