They are sometimes on at ONANON throughout the year. I checked and there are no premiership fixtures for that day
hhmm yeah I typed in the date but couldn't find many events happening that day maybe its just general Sky Sports viewing, and just a chance to chat and have some drinks..no idea! I'll let you know if he says anything! Let me know the next time there's a silent disco, I'll see you there..ha!
Its probably going to be arranged; I think the line-up is kinda deceiving a bit as its all student-y stuff, but I'm sure it'll be more "mixed-up" than last year.
I'm actually praying at night YoungMan has quit DJing

RnB... every.... night.... >.< Looks like i shall havta search elsewhere for my musical entertainment in freshers.
There's loads of DnB nights around London anyway, 2 of my flatmates last year were always going to them...there are quite a lot of DnB heads at QM too.
I wrote to the SU the other day complaining that, once again, the spectrum of events was far too narrow. I doubt they'll listen, they never do, but it was worth a try!

They're just targetting a common-demographic, as the SU itself needs to be able to guarantee sales of tickets, and attendees.
Join the group on Facebook, and write a message on the wall stating what you'd like to see.
The Ents Officer is an event Organiser for a Promotions Company anyway, so he could always arrange something else (although not sure if possible in the middle of freshers week).

Ahhhhh cool, I am a member of that group and about 5 others lol.
haha yeah I've noticed waaay too many people have been creating groups and saying they are the "official" ones! Its all the rival non-SU Promoters. One group completely copied the events list from the official group (as made by Samit) and posed it as their own..with like 1,500 members! LOL.

I know there are loads of dnb nights in London (being a londoner myself and attending them regularly already) but the reason i'm miffed is because it makes it alot harder for me and others not into as mainstream genres to make friends in freshers, or atleast lasting friends (not the case for everyone but music taste is a big factor for me). I just think its unfair to overrepresent one genre so much and leave so many genres with no exposure at all, especially in a london uni.
But aslong as there are dnb heads to find i shall be a happy happy man, tis just a shame that i won't enjoy most fresher events (rnb really really gets to me >.<) and i'll havta pay alot more going to other nights on a tight budget as it is. (eeep didnt realise that had become such a rant... /endrant)

Yeah I understand, but the SU has to pay for these events, and to have guarantees people will attend...cheese, r&b and dance/club type usual stuff sells, so they do it. You could always organise your own event I'd say just suck-it-in and go to a few events for the sake of going to meet people, not for the music. Those DnB flatmates of mine went to the usual Fresher's events, but then started to make other friends randomnly on their course who were into the same music..so they went to them nights.
Leave a message on the facebook group, and just ask whether anything will be planned in the future, at least express your interest in them, as I'm sure the venue would fill out if there was one...from hardcore DnBers, to just random adventurers
