I'm a bit confused with its rankings. It is placed far below most other universities in the THES-QS World Rankings 2007 but it is placed way above most other universities in the Good University Guide 2009. Especially comparing Loughborough with Liverpool, Nottingham, Southampton, Newcastle etc.

That's because the UK league table for local universities are the most confusing and misleading information that a student can get one's hand onto. The best thing is just ignore its total score. (many of its total score for universities seems arbitrary) Check each individual categories instead like entry tariff, job prospect etc.

If you are planning to return home after graduation, then look else where. Loughborough is rarely heard of internationally to most employers. But in UK, Loughborough seems to enjoy a good reputation in engineering and some science related courses. Engineering is definitely one of its best courses.

I was at Loughborough this year, and it wasn't for me...the town (not even a city like you said, lol) was too small, and the atmosphere on campus was too geared towards sports which isn't something I'm into. However, if you're sporty and don't mind frequenting the same 7 or so decent nightspots for a few years, you should be fine!

It is easy to travel to Nottingham/Leicester for a night out. Don't be under the impression you would be limited to just Loughborough... :P

Trains, Buses run till late!

Why does the river mersy run through liverpool?

because if it walked it would get mugged.

Course liverpool has more to do, what can you expect when the city is like 5 times the size of loughborough. You do the maths

Loughborough = nights out in nottingham. A big no no. I don't want to die, thank you. Liverpool is nice and friendly and I feel very safe here, aslong as you stay away from some areas. Also the thieves thing comes from centuries ago when everyone was poor, and most worked for the ship builders, but the workers had to have a bidding war to pay the ship employer to employ them. Ie, they payed to get money, and they paid a lot of money due to competition from other workers. Due to this, people were very poor and had to steal their food every now and again from the ships they helped work on!

But back to my original point.. isn't nottingham like.. crime capital of the UK or something? Or death capital?

Loughborough is an average university and that's all I have to say.

now way is it average! Its way more than average
if there was a scale one to ten, ten being the best and most reputable

then Lougborough would be 7.5 and maybe 8.5 for certain courses like Engineering, Sports and maybe Business
To summarise, it's pretty damn good

my teachers said to avoid loughborough because it only really known for sport not academics even though it may be good at it, that is the impression employers will get.

Not entirely true. The Business School at Loughborough is becoming more successful due to the recognition it has gained from prospective employers across the country. This is also cemented by 12 month placements out working in the real world that most Business School students complete as a part of their studies.
