my teachers said to avoid loughborough because it only really known for sport not academics even though it may be good at it, that is the impression employers will get.

Most major employers within Engineering/Business/Finance all target Loughborough students. I would say it is definately very well regarded by top Graduate employers.

Your teacher is misleading you.

Loughborough = nights out in nottingham. A big no no. I don't want to die, thank you. Liverpool is nice and friendly and I feel very safe here, aslong as you stay away from some areas. Also the thieves thing comes from centuries ago when everyone was poor, and most worked for the ship builders, but the workers had to have a bidding war to pay the ship employer to employ them. Ie, they payed to get money, and they paid a lot of money due to competition from other workers. Due to this, people were very poor and had to steal their food every now and again from the ships they helped work on!

But back to my original point.. isn't nottingham like.. crime capital of the UK or something? Or death capital?

well, im starting my 3rd year this year at loughborough, and I've only been out in Notts twice, and both times I felt perfectly safe and sound, its just like any other big city that has its dodgy areas, you just dont go in them! but tbh ive never felt the need to go really, with the awesomeness of our union, and the good nights the clubs in town put on, and how cheap drinks are compared to big cities!

If it's engineering then it's down to Manchester with Loughborough.

Cant say for Elec Eng. but certainly it has a good reputation for Mech Eng, which is what i do.

Having gone to all the opendays, i put it above Leeds, Liverpool, Warwick, Manchester, and Nottingham. With Nottingham as my second choice.
- I wasnt impressed with Warwick or Leeds so much, neather Liverpool, who just banged on about how thereticall based the course was. Not what i wanted.
- Manchester was a option, but the whole unmist merge seamed a mess at the time (three years ago this was) and Nottingham, although very good coursewise, didnt seam any better, and i perfered the loughborough campus.

Yes u will have ure shoes and lunch money stolen and you will wedgied all the way home

LOL
No buddy!
I am one of the non sports people, and I never had any sort of "discrimination", but I would deffo recommend getting involved, it does help in the long run, health and fitness wise! I kinda regret not having done so especially as there were good facilites available!

What facilities do you mean? I’ve not come across any luffs is crap! I’m amazed that Loughborough has such an average gym. Though there is powerbase and even that’s not WOW lol fitness first in town is much better than either of them. There are loads of sports you can play but you have to pay to join the society and unless you’re a professional /semi you’ll never get a game, Kinda a waste of time IMO. I’ve never had a opportunity to play anything other than football, I think that’s the same for lots of people, I think we should have more beginners stuff thus far i’ve not come across any. Though I’ll have a look at the socs this year!

Im not sporty eather.
- Tbh, the engineers and sporty people dont have to mix any more than they have to. You hardly even have to bump into them on a night out if you dont want to. All depends where and what you want to do or be.
