I'm a lighting technician and stage manager AMA
so I know this is a bit old now but:

- what did you take for GCSEs?
- what did you take for A-Levels?
- what's involved in your day-to-day work as a stage manager?
- did you go to uni? if so, what did you study?
- have you always been interested in theatre?
- do you like performing too, or do you just work backstage?

feel free to answer as few or as many as you like

Still in high school believe it or not!!
So in saying this stage managing isn't my full time job - its totally on the side i stage manage a lot of local theatre, as well as school productions i work mainly on musicals but have done a few plays and musical gigs.
I haven't always been interested in theatre - maybe when i was about 15 i thought it might be cool to be an actress :hmmmm2: and then i started volunteering for amateur theatre groups as a lighting tech operating the board as well as the domes (i think you call them follow spots) and then i was asked to do lighting for something else and then i ended up stage managing it and word got around and soon i was being asked to do it from all over the place. there are heaps of courses now days that teach you the fundamentals of stage managing and lighting design and sound operating but i really do think its a job that you learn as you go - you pick stuff up from others and just run with it.
i do enjoy performing but am much better backstage then on the stage admittedly

sorry for the delayed response! i haven't been online in weeks! sorry!

Volunteering.
Lots of volunteering, and word of mouth is a brilliant thing too.
Are you busy atm? Might be in need of techies. :colondollar:

I had to do an On after curtain up, but forgot (yeah, I had one job, blah blah), then remembered, but did an artistically very slow fade up instead thinking no one would notice. The director didn't agree with my artistic decision... :toofunny:
