The motor makes a noise when it is turned on.
Describe the differences between the properties of the sound waves produced by the motor and the water waves in the ripple tank.

This question is asking you to classify sound wave and water waves as a transverse wave or longitudinal wave.

Sound wave - transverse wave or longitudinal wave?
Water wave - transverse wave or longitudinal wave?
So the differences are just the differences between transverse wave and longitudinal wave.

Note: water wave at higher level of physics is usually not considered as a transverse wave.
