Clearing/Accommodation

I didn't get the grades for my first choice university, I phoned Queen Mary and was offered a spot which I am dead happy about.

The lecturer I spoke to was very nice and said she would hold a place for me but I needed to send my clearing passport and that the latest she would accept it is Monday evening. I haven't received my passport yet and I'm really worried about it not arriving in time. And I mean really worried. Should I phone Queen Mary again and tell the lecturer that I am waiting for the passport to arrive? Or just wait and hope it arrives in time?

Then my mind started wandering and I began to worry about accommodation. Will the university try and accommodate me even though I'm entering through clearing? I don't have any friends/family near London and don't have a clue about renting a flat. All I know is that London is expensive!

Thanks for any help.

hey!! i just spoke to a lady in the residences office and she was like apparently qm dont give accommodation to people who come i through clearing.. which worries me too cause i live all the way in bham and its taking ages (or what feels like years) for the passport thingy to come!

i feel like such a fool for turning down my friend who offered me a room to live with her.. :frown:

yeah accomadation is usually taken up by people who had QM as their firm. I would suggest u look at intercollegiate accomadation, and private halls such as unite. Good luck

:[ damn! Now I'm really scared - I was hoping, and I mean really hoping that I'd get into halls. I'm thinking of going with unite, and I'm also looking at flat shares. Well, my Mum is looking at flat shares!

kit21088 - I really hope it works out for you!I know how you feel about the passport coming. It's not a fun time, is it!

Thanks for the help guys :]

Contact the Residences Office in QM for flat-shares, there's going to be hundreds of you first years in similar positions; if you were gonna live in halls, you'd have been living with random peeps anyways :p:

so does QM not give accommodation to clearing students? Or is it just very unlikely? Because I have not had any feedback from them about it

Its highly unlikely, if you need a place I have a room VERY locally sharing with other QM students.

The Residences Office does not house students from clearing or insurance choices.

However, each academic department has been given a quota (e.g. 5 rooms) that they can offer to clearing students as an incentive to take up a place at QM.

I phoned the accommodation office and the guy was so rude to me, I was actually upset - I was stressed beyond belief, scared about being homeless in London, phoned for some advice and was treated liked poo. I was told that clearing students aren't eligible for university accommodation so I should stop bothering and find a flat share.

I've got a contract with Unite now, so I'm kind of sorted. Bitter :] but sorted!

Just because you didn't get what you wanted, doesn't mean you were treated like poo.

No really, the man was horrible over the phone. The people at Unite and the intercollegiate halls were helpful though.
