I firmed my offer a week ago, now what? Shouldn't I have been sent accommodation information yet? Or do I apply another way?

I got a letter about it, we can apply in the middle of April. We apply online when it opens I think

Rowancroft. Or, James Owen Court (in the city centre) is also pretty close.

Anyone applying for accommodation today? I can't seem to apply for Pennsylvania Court - does it have another name?

EDIT: Never mind, called the office
Well, I just applied for accom, and unless I get a room at lafrowda, i'm going to be living off £30 a week. Aaaah.

Lafrowda's pretty loud, right?

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what Northfield accommodation is like? It's my third choice I'm really hoping I won't get it but want to know in case I do...

I firmed Exeter! (Doing Acc & Fin).

Accommodation-wise, I'm just confused as to which to choose. At the moment, it's Holland Hall, St. Germans, and my third choice is a 3-way race between Birks Grange Village, Pennsylvania Court, and Lafrowda. I prefer the first two (I heard Lafrowda is having some work done to it, and that may mean a bit of noise, I assume), but I'm just afraid they'll be oversubscribed, and having 3 oversubscribed options seem like a bad idea, IMO.

any thoughts?

I chose Holland Hall, Penns Court and Birks Grange... Do you not know whether you want self-catered or catered then?

Also don't worry about them being over-subscribed. You'll get at least one (as in, there will be a guaranteed place for you) as you've firmed it. Plus, everyone has an equal chance for a place as it's done randomly (as far as I know) so you could be the person that fills up the last place at one.... or you could be the person that's first to get a place at another. If you see what I'm saying. They aren't oversubscribed, just popular, and like I said, you're guaranteed a place in one of your three... As long as you like them all it's not really a problem

No you aren't. According to the website, you're guaranteed an offer of accommodation, if you "have firmly accepted the offer of a place at the University of Exeter and who have applied for accommodation by 31st July 2010," but it also says:

"We make every effort to allocate accommodation according to your preferred choices. However, due to the high demand for certain residences, it may not be possible to offer you any of your preferred choices. In these circumstances we use your stated preferences as a guide to the type of accommodation you would prefer and automatically offer you alternative accommodation."

Well, I prefer self-catering, but I like Holland Hall and Pennsylvania Court. Ah, dilemma...

But anyway, thanks for the explanation about the allocation! Really helpful!

Sorry about that, I think I misunderstood them on the accommodation day. It was all a little confusing.

Any time. Sorry I didn't get it quite right but with this whole uni thing I've been doing a fair bit of research into things that really aren't going to help...
