I'll probably put St Germans as my first choice, even though I'm still hesitating with Row House!

Hello freshers of next year! I'm finishing in my first year at Exeter studying at the business school. I live in Lafrowda and I would honestly honestly recommend it as the best place! It's literally 4 minutes from the business school, and once the building work is complete, less than 10 mins from the other major buildings. Also, if you go en suite, you'll be in nearly brand new buildings. I got into K block, which was brand new last year, so no dirty mattresses!

Also, I want to stress how important location is. I would try to stay clear of Birks Grange...

If you have any specific questions about some accommodation buildings or business school stuff, let me know! I also know stuff about the music facilities.

Hey  I'm definitely putting Lafrowda down as my first choice for accommodation, but I'm unsure what to put as my other 2 choices. At first I was thinking St Germans and Rowe House just because of their locations and they're fairly cheap for what I want (self-catered en-suite), but they seem really over-subscribed. Do you know any other self-catered, en-suite, places which are in a relatively good location (near the physics building) with a good atmosphere/quite lively socially? I've already spoken to people on the accommodation thread but I'm just trying to get as much info as possible before I apply

I'm in the same predicament as you I think :P I'm going to apply for lafrowda en suite but not too sure regarding the other self catered accommodation, as I never got a chance to look around them :s-smilie: I'm looking for other self catered en suites relatively central to the streatham campus and not too far from the amory law building
Rowe House and St Germans are also really close, and I hear good things about them so they should be good second and third choices. Location wise, Rowe house is parallel to Lafrowda. But nothing beats the Lafrowda atmosphere

As for being oversubscribed, I do hear horror stories about people getting something random they didn't even put in their choices, such as Cook Mews (most current students have never even hear of that place), but those were the ones that submitted late, I think.

11flon, if you want to be near the Physics building it might be an idea to consider Birks Grange, just because of the proximity. That said, there is a massive slope called "Cardiac Hill" that you will need to climb every day so I hope you have a good lung capacity! But Birks does have a great social vibe, it's a huge cluster of blocks so lots of people! Also, all their buildings a brand new and super nice.

Ah, well hopefully we both get our first choice! The other 2 I mentioned are really close to Lafrowda so they'd probably be pretty good location-wise but I'm not sure whether they're as lively and such as they're not as big.

Ah thanks a lot  didn't really like the feel of birks grange when I had a look around, I think because it was catered, self-catered and townhouses all together it just felt a bit of a mismatch (to me anyway ). Plus I'm far too lazy to attempt Cardiac Hill every day. Someone on the accommodation thread mentioned James Owens Court as it was a fairly big block of flats which is more what I'm going for and said the location was great because it was near the city centre which I like the sound of. They said it was in the middle of Streatham and St Luke's campuses but the website suggests its way closer to St Luke's, don't suppose you have any idea which is more accurate? Or if you know anything about JOC itself? (sorry to keep asking so many questions!)

I know a couple of people in James Owen, but I haven't visited it myself, mainly because it's pretty much in the town center. I heard someone say its practically next to Odeon. That means it's just a couple of minutes from Arena, one of the popular clubs. Personally, I would prefer my first year on campus, because it's an experience, and it's so much easier to hang out with people (ex. if you live in lafrowda, all the people from Lopes, Penny C, Rowe House and St Germans are a stone's throw away). Plus, would YOU want to get up half an hour early for 9ams? Trust me, bliss = jumping out of bed at 8:55 and making it to class on time. But that's just my opinion, I'm sure it's a nice place! Maybe there's some people with experience in James Owen on this thread?

Yeah I suppose you're right, I probably should experience living on campus in my first year, as I'll probably be living in the town centre for my second year anyway! Plus I'm terrible at getting up on time for anything so I suppose the nearer I am to where I'm learning the better :P I think I'll apply for Lafrowda, St Germans and Rowe House and pray that I get into Lafrowda! Thanks for all your help

Ive firmed an offer for Economics with econometrics at the business school and was just wondering do you know how easy of if people have switched to a year abroad? Ive been thinking more about it recently and would love to have a year out.

Secondly ive chosen Lafrowda, Rowe House and Birks townhouses in that order... I know the business school is a roll out of bed from the first 2 but I liked the sounds of the townhouses but these are a trek away is that the only reason you said to avoid it? I also play the sax so what happens with practise rooms and stuff!?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions!

I was told at the open day that it is pretty simple!

Someone I asked on open day said that 1. Your grades mattered, 2. There was an interview\presentation. 3. I read somewhere that you need to do the language modules for the countries you want to go to.
