I booked in my arrival time at my halls this week and booked to arrive on Saturday 15th, but my offer says that the period of residence doesn't start until the 16th? Does that mean that I have to stay off campus for one night?

Everyone's contract says that, so don't worry! That's the date your contract officially starts but as there are too many people to move in on a single day they stagger the arrivals.

Everyone's contract always starts on the Sunday, but in real life they don't want everyone to actually arrive on the same day 'cos that would be insane. Don't worry about it. It's fine.

Ah I got mine yesterday! I got my third choice too, ransom pickard and have been allocated a shared room which I'm slightly worried about but hoping it'll mean having someone to talk to straight away!! Getting so excited now

i'm in ransom pickard but single room and i'm worried about not having someone to talk to! but i'm very excited! what are people doing about wristbands for freshers week?
Anyone in Radford House Rowancroft (near St. Lukes)?
Sport and Exercise Science...anybody else?
The more the merrier!
No one is going to be policing your electrical products. Take what you want.

I'm pretty sure this point has already been raised and addressed recently, several times.

Well, your use of the word "allowed" led me to believe that you were more concerned that your appliances were going to be confiscated if you took them to the uni and tried to use them.

Anyway, no, it's not the case. If it was, the fridges and microwaves in the kitchens wouldn't work either!
Either they're just trying to keep their leccy costs down, or minimise the chances of someone bringing something that IS a faulty high-voltage product that will trip electricity.

As long as your stuff is safe I.e. not ancient and not damaged it will be fine. I was using hair straighteners, hair driers, some of my flatmates had huge amps etc. it won't be a problem.

Re: high power hair dryers, they do trip the electric in bedrooms, but nowhere else in the flats. Just a switch in the room to get it back on though. This is true for Lafrowda anyway which is where she's staying.

Strange.

When I was in old Lafrowda I never had this problem.

In the old Lafrowda it works fine, In the new Lafrowda my 2000W hairdryer tripped the bedroom switches and wouldn't work for more than like 2s. I was in a studio and it worked in the kitchenette plug.

In new Lafrowda I was talking about. It works but trips the electric after a few minutes- just use it in the corridor of the flat or kitchen. I think the maintenance guys tell you all this when you move in though

I don't think we're meant to have them yet, it says this on their website:

[Quote] (Student) I get a message that my timetable is not yet available, when will it be available?
- Student personal timetables generally do not begin to become available until after late September
- Your college may have chosen to suppress your personal on-line timetable; the message should have given further information, but if that is insufficient, you should contact your college administration office
- General programme and module timetables may be viewed on the Timetable Office web site but note that general timetables include all options and all class groups

Mine was the same as yours until yesterday and now I just get a page saying its being updated so they're obviously still sorting them out/not ready to give them out yet.

This is the Timetable Office website it says about so you can get a good idea what your timetable's going to be like https://admin.exeter.ac.uk/academic/timetable/tt/2012/programme/
