For my university essay, I have to critically discuss utilitarianism and animals right theory. What are the strengths and weaknesses of Peter Singers utilitarianism and Tom Regans Animal rights? I need to use other authors to critique their work, and the strengths and weakness need to be under the same category for both if that makes sense? Thankss

Have you started by reading some Singer and Regan? Honestly this is a pretty nice essay to need to write, and you should have some decent ideas of your own if you just read something by either.

I think utilitarianism and animal rights can be very fruitfully approached from the "conscious thinking" angle. Nagel's "Do Bats Think?" (or a title to that effect) is especially popular, and it opens up a great conceptual space to replace the human-animal dichotomy with the human animal-nonhuman animal dichotomy. A simple Google search search should give you Nagel's essay. A good implication being: IFF "animals" also think consciously what really is the difference between "us and them"? All the best.

Phenomenology 101 would also be useful here.
