Anyone applying for Aberystwyth for 2020 entry? I will be making it my first choice uni for the joint criminology and psychology course and will be staying in accommodation (hopefully).

I speak welsh but won’t be staying in the welsh dorm block nor doing my course in welsh lmao.

Hi there @MythicalFaith

Great to hear that you are considering applying to Aberystwyth University!

I have recently finished my undergraduate degree in International Politics and History at Aberystwyth University and will be starting my masters degree this year. I have had a brilliant experience at Aberystwyth University over the last three years and I am very much looking forward to returning very soon! The town is very student friendly, there are plenty of activities to get involved in, and the teaching quality and resources available are fantastic.

During my first year I stayed in university accommodation, I was in Cwrt Mawr which is one of the cheaper accommodation options but was still great to live in. I shared a flat with 7 others and there was a very communal atmosphere among the blocks, everyone was very friendly and respectful. I have heard that the other uni accommodation is similar in this way, there are common areas outside of your flat which you can go to to work and to socialise. If you would like more in depth information about accommodation and different accommodation options please let me know!

Please let me know if you have any questions or need any advice at all, I will be very happy to help out in any way I can

Hi, I'm Hannah.
I'm looking to apply to Aber for Law in 2020, and hoping to stay if Fferm Penglais accommodation

Hi there @hannahgtfc

Great to hear that you are interested in applying to study law at Aberystwyth University next year!

I would definitely recommend that you try to visit one of our open days, they fall on the 12th October 2019 and 9th November 2019. During the open day you will be able to visit the university campus, speak to members of your department about teaching methods and other opportunities. You will also be able to visit the different accommodation which the university offers. For more information about open days and what you should bring/things to prepare, there is more information on the Aberystwyth University website: https://www.aber.ac.uk/en/undergrad/open-days/

I myself recently have begun my postgraduate study at Aberystwyth University and I am staying in Fferm Penglais this year. I have been very impressed with the rooms, the amount of storage space and the general location of the accommodation. It is a 5 minute walk from campus which is great for walking to and from lectures and is very handy to have the library and other campus facilities so close by.

Please let me know if you have any more questions, i'll be very happy to help out in any ways that I can

Yes, I am heading to Aber for InterPol. Visited the town and Uni a few times now and it is absolutely phenomenal. Would highly recommend people to give the Uni a shot.

Glad to hear that you're excited about coming to Aber @Ben O'Connor
Hey there,

I've got offers from Aberystwyth, Exeter and Cardiff to study International Relations and I can't decide which one to choose. Also waiting for Sussex and KCL to make up their minds (International Development both) Which uni has the strongest IR department you reckon? I've heard people praising Aber, apparently top notch, but not sure how up to date that information is.

I'm also really worried about my financial situation at uni as I've got no maintanance loan and I rely on part time work heavily. What's your experience with student jobs in Aber? I mean
I've got plenty of experience from bars and restaurants so that's not an issue. I'm thinking about coming to Aber as soon as the whole covid19 situation calms down and we're allowed to travel so I would get there long before most students arrive, even months ahead if possible. It would probably be a lot easier to get a job in Cardiff or Exeter but isn't it like a lot more expansive? I just checked the prices for student halls and it gave me a little heart attack.

I've done a year at Worcester uni and finances were manageable there. Sometimes quite a struggle to find work but not too bad.

Please let me know what you think.
I'm coming to aber to do strategy, intelligence and security!!!

I'm also going for comp sci at Aber, I also did the entrance exams and managed to get an unconditional out of it so I'm all set for September now
How did your entrance exams go? Which ones did you do? I did the comp sci and the physics ones - quite interesting papers overall, very different to the A-Level specification papers
