Ok, so the first thing you have to to do is assign a letter to each object, so the spoon can be "s" and the knives can be "k". Then you have to turn the word problem into a simultaneous equation (I presume that you know how to solve a simultaneous equation). So, since a simultaneous equation has two equations we need to group the information in the word problem into two separate equations. the first equation would be k=3s, since a knife is three times the cost of a spoon. The second equation is 9s+3k=£82.80. Now that you have the two equations you should be able to solve the rest.

Hope this helps!:smile:

BTW, what year are you in?

I don't have a clue how to solve the rest as of yet ive had 2 equals answers on both equations got the ys the same by multiplying then solved??

K=3s
9s+12k =82.80
12 x 3 =36
9s +36k=82.80
9s =46.80

@help where have i gone wrong with this please?

Ok, so it should look like this:

K=3s
9s+12k=82.80
12 x 3=36
9s+36s=45s
45s=82.80

Can you solve the rest now?
