I got a letter in the post today also! What time is your interview? and do you have 2 yes? Well done

My interviews are at 10:00 and 12:15
Very happy Downing informed me (I don't know about others) so far in advance compared to some other colleges!

Hi Saelie,

I am also a LE applicant, have my interview on the 26th of Nov. at Trinity Hall. It has been so good reading your answers on LE, since it's so hard finding anyone who actually studies it. I'd have a couple of questions:

a) Any ideas how I revise for my interviews if I haven't learnt either law or economics so far? (not really options in Hungary...) Will this effect my application very badly?
b) I found some "sample interview questions" on google for LE, like "Is it more important to focus on poverty at home or abroad?" (link: https://sites.google.com/site/oxbridgeinterviewquestions/land-economy) are these of any help? Is it likely that I'll get asked something similar to these questions?

Thanks in advance,
M

I'd like hearing the answers to this question too!

Congrats! All of the Newnham girls are absolutely lovely - I'm slightly jealous of the "female camaraderie", to be honest! :p:

Now you need to update your sig.

What are your offers? 41 with 776 for me, I should make it, I am so happy.
Offer here as well, for Trinity Hall. Need to get maximum grades in all of my Hungarian final exams, but already have max grades for 3 of the 5. Should be manageable.

Do you take Land Ec?

Nope, I'm a lawyer. I've ended up subscribed to some weird threads on TSR because I've answered a few applicant queries. I guess this is one of them! :p:

Ahh right! Do you know any Land Ec students then?
I'm really worried about the stigma attached to Land ec :frown:

As in what other students & employers think. My dad keeps being mean about it haha

Yeah, there are two Land Economists in my year at Pembroke. From experience (of The Tab, rather than talking to the Land Ecs!), there's a bit of "banter" about it being easy, but the same is said by science students of arts students. The same's true for inter-college jokes - there's no serious rivalry between colleges, and anyone who treats you differently because of Land Ec/college choice is an idiot anyway. Cambridge is by no means an easy place to study, so everyone who's there should be proud of their achievements. :yep:

I can't really comment on how Land Ec is perceived by employers since I've followed the "obvious" career path from law degree to lawyer, but I'm sure the other Land Ecs and the Careers Service will be able to reassure you. Here is a list of a few of the destinations of Land Ec grads and, taking an area I know something about, two of them are solicitors. Both are good firms but, to put it into perspective, Slaughter & May is widely recognised as one of the most prestigious law firms in the world. There's more to getting a job than your degree!

My brother does LandEc so I know a bit about it. A lot of students will joke about it being easy but in reality it is just more broad and applicable than many of the more traditional academic subjects. Most employers will just see it as a degree from Cambridge and the worst you might have to do is explain what it actually entails in an interview. I wouldn't worry too much about it. :nah:

What do you mean by 'scout'? Some employers will turn up at the careers fairs and others will spam your pidge but apart from that I don't know.

From the course description:

[h="4"]Exceptional employment prospects[/h]The Department has one of the strongest records for graduate employment across the University - a reflection of its strong applied base and emphasis on the development of critical employment skills.
Our graduates go on to become lawyers, economists, civil servants or to work for national and international agencies. Many go into financial, business or management careers, and others enter public service with local or national organisations or proceed to further education and research.
